Mt. Sinai
This chapel was a lovely surprise as we reached the summit of Mt. Sinai, Egypt. The climb took a total of about 2-3 hours and was very easy. Mt. Sinai is 2285m high and is Egypt’s second highest mountain. The light from the setting sun cast a warm orange glow over the chapel.
Mt. Sinai is believed to be the mountain that Moses ascended to recieve the stone tablets of the ten commandments from the Lord. The chapel is not open to the public, although supposedly encloses the rock from which God made the tablets.

Beautiful light and location. I still remember walking the trail up to the chapel at 3 am to view the sunrise. Thanks for sharing with the Art of the Middle East group.

Wonderful! The colours and the clear view into the distance… did you have to walk down in the dark?

Sekans replied
Thanks Mattie! Yes we did have to walk down in the dark (and the freezing cold! It was easily below -5*C). Although we had torches we didn’t use them as there was an almost full moon which easily lit up the landscape enough too see where we were going.
