Bidwell Park, Chico, CA is 11 miles in length and an important part of the Chico community. A long, skinny park with a significant presence in the downtown area and wandering out to the buttes beyond the town, it provides many areas for a variety of activities.
In 1937-8 Errol Flynn and Olivia de Haviland starred in"The Adventures of Robin Hood" and were filmed in the lower park area which was used as Sherwood Forest.
Big Chico Creek runs through the entire park, with a section blocked off by a small dam creating a 300’ swimming pool . Grassy areas with large oak and sycamore trees provide wonderful shade-all areas are free of charge.
This morning a lot of smoke was in the air, a large fire in Plumas National Forest had been burning for about a week and the smoke was drifting down into Chico creating the mist like look. This fire burned for another 3 weeks and was finally contained after burning over 75,000 acres.
