marker pen, oil paint, turpentine, linseed oil, charcoal – you name it – on A3 bristol paper in the sketchbook of secrets.

In this picture you, the viewer are a monotreme hatching out of your hard leathery egg & emerging into your new world. A human is intently watching your birth, fascinated by a species he has not encountered before..

I’m still battling on with this silly broken-but-nearly-healed wrist of mine! It’s just very stiff & sore, making it harder to control my tools. or pick things up & put them down, for that matter: i keep dropping everything! but i feel like my drawing’s so close to being back to normal, i can at least tell my stories again!

there’s a graininess that comes through on the paper when you use charcoal, which i quite like! goes nicely with my slightly rough inking at the mo!

“Ria Gilham is a self taught artist with a remarkable eccentric realist style influenced by her medical training. Expressing her love of fantasy and tales of the imagination, her paintings appear as scenes from yet to be written legends.”
