Oh WOW! This is absolutely magical!!!! Incredible work – how did you do it?! Stunning work!

  • seawhisper replied

    Well it’s not that hard.
First you have to find a good place.
Usually a city park is a good place. You take an assistant and lots of sunflower seeds, nuts (I always have walnuts for squirrels with me, I crush them into little parts so the tits and other small birds can grab them), or just a bread if you don’t have anything else.
You ask the assistant to put a bread on his / her hand and straighten arm. You with the camera move away as far as you can to get a good shot. Then you just have to wait. It’s important to find a good spot. If you notice some birds in the bushes or on the lower branches of the trees then it’s a good spot. ;)
When some birds will come, give them some time to be more tamed with situation, with the assistant and your camera. (Just not too much – they can be easily filled with food and stop coming to your assistant hand. ;) )
The rest is just a camera setup – it’s good to have long lens, and time as short as you can. 1/1000 second is too long – the best results are at about 1/5000 and shorter, but it’s quite hard to have it due to the light conditions.
And of course you have to have a lots of patience and a bit of luck.
To get this picture (and maybe 5 more good) I had to shot about 300 photos. :D

Wow, what a photo with a spanned wing shot like that. Just to get the bird to come in the first place than for it to be so comfortable to sit on someones hand. remarkable…......Sandy

  • seawhisper replied

Tbh it didn’t take that much to make it sit on the hand. In my park they’re quite tamed. They’re more afraid of the camera then the hand with the seeds. :)
