The Last Moment

One, two, three, four
Then nothing
A heartbeat away from the end
A heartbeat away from the beginning
My thoughts come a mile a minute
Breaking only to emit more thoughts
Stop and go traffic in my head
And then time stands still
Just for a moment
What was I looking for?
What was I waiting for?
Life passes by on a 5:30 train to nowhere
The only sound is the rushing wind
What did I mean to say before I left?
Why did I wait so long?
The train pulls to a stop
I get on board
One glance back
That’s all I get
Before my time is over
And everything I meant to say and do is lost

Wonderful slice and splice of time; of say and do too.
