The texture has added a lot to this i think. It has a great wintery feeling although I am not fussed about heading back to that part of the year. Great !

I could be wrong – which isn’t difficult – but one fact I will start off with and maybe the rest of my statement is true.
RED is the most noticeable colour by the human eye – even the smallest amount from the furthest distance and people see it. Taking that idea this could be to do with the colours of the rainbow ROYGBIV (Richard Of York Gained Battle in Vain or as my physics teacher used to say learn the fake word VIBGYOR.
Anyway – Red, then Orange then YELLOW in order.
Hence your yellow dominated shot really WORKS. Summer bright colour against the ‘winter white’.
70’s american cars always evoke memories of tv shows Kojak, Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky and Hutch, Excellent atmospheric shot of NY once again.

Thanks gottheshot. My husband actually doesn’t like this one “too observational, not “athmosheric” enough. I have actually reworked on the selective colouring, and it is funny you mention the red, because you see the arrow on the top right corner, is a red light wich i have left. Actually i’ll upload so you can see it ;-)

In my own opinion – if a photo is to be atmospheric – it has more chance of being so in B&W.
Something about the shapes and tones which create a VIBE.
A feeling of uneasiness as the brain wants to see the colours but they are ‘withheld’. Its like walking through a dimly lit room – in broad daylight – not a problem – take away that light and colour – ATMOSPHERE is back!!
The brain sees a B&W and tries to ‘see the story more’ than it does a colour one.

A great B&W portrait will BEAT a cool colour portrait every time.
Compare a B&W wedding photo to a colour one – No contest.
A colour wedding photo is a snapshot – a B&W is timeless and has a romantic air to it. Maybe cos it harps back to when there was only B&W.

Take the film ‘Alien’ OK its sci-fi but if the film was shot like Star Wars with its white and more white – then who’s gonna be scared of that. :-)

I look forward to seeing that my physics lesson was of some use :-)

  • Sonia de Maced... replied

gosh you’re so right! my black and white of the same period (don’t think it was the same day, as i was using argentic at the time, and i don’t think i would have used two films in one day, too poor 19 year old…). there is definitely the b&w factor! can’t seem to add the link of the red arrow version, you can check it out on my first page, 1st pic. Thanks again for your lesson gottheshot ;-)
