I have been experimenting with still life and this is what i have come up with. I will be looking at other subjects and trying to improve. Any feedback good or bad would be appreciated. The inspiration for this came because the flower was wilting under a much larger bush, therefore i tried to recreate these conditions using a weak light source and dark surroundings. Taken using a Canon 500D.

    Hi, I am a cohost of Vanitas Still Life and we would like more details of the thought process behind this image, maybe tell us a little about A and B so we can better understand the meaning and symbolism of your work. Can you please add a few of these details to the descrition. Thanks =)

  • I picked the flower from my garden and put it into a pot of water as it was starting to wilt outside. I liked the way it looked so photographed it. The shot was OK but not great. I then thought about where it was under a bush in the garden struggling for light that’s when i decided to have the flower in darkness except for a small amount of light. This was achieved using black card and a torch and took a couple of efforts until i was happy. Hope this is enough info………..Steve

    I like the very minimalist composition.
    Personally, I would probably have gone a little closer so the vase/flower would fill the frame more. This way you would have more light in the frame and more details would appear.
    Cheers x

  • Many thanks for your thoughts……. I will try this out next time….. I am very much new and still learning so all feedback is very much appreciated……….

    Hi i am John, the host of http://www.redbubble.com/groups/vanitas and woud like to clarify that this work has been submitted to our group and has yet to be moderated while we find out more about the image. from my understanding of your reply to my cohost it appears the the sentements that inspired this image are that of the struggle to surevive and thhat this is the reason for the dark atmosphere and use of a single ground level light source etc. if you could please add this information to the image discription under the edit tab we would be very greatful, this is so that other people can access this information and so better understand your work without scrolling through all the comments,
    Thanks =]
