I’ve been searching for quite some time
And now I’ve finally found
A home amongst these mountains
Where my soul’s no longer bound.
Where the cold wind blows
And I do not feel its chill.
It’s energy though I harvest
To store within my will.
It’s called upon when needed
Perhaps on that grueling climb
When you can’t go any farther
The strength comes from the mind.
Alone up on that mountain
But lonely I’ll never be.
Surrounded by the silence
The mountain speaks to me.
It dares me to the summit
My muscles tired and sore
Yet my heart beats ever stronger
As it screams for more and more!
Inspired by the beauty
And the power of this place
My heart shall never tire
And my passion will not waste.
It is here amongst these mountains
Where my flesh, my blood, my bone
Function as one with purpose
In this place that I call home.

This is the inspiration I received when I first hiked in Canada’s Rocky Mountains.

Beautifully written. You may have been inspired to write these same words after a hike in The Smoky Mountains, as well. Thanks for sharing with us! Kim

I have not been to the Smokey’s in particular, but I have spent time in the Northern Appalachians through New York and Vermont. They are quite beautiful…especially in fall!
