Being that I live just up the road a bit from Brisbane, I’m sure I should probably know what this building is – but I don’t.
I can tell you though that it’s rather large and is wholly enclosed by this red and white ‘skin’.
It’s intriguing to say the least. I’ve heard others use much different adjectives to describe it ;-)

EDIT : Mel tells me that this is one of the ventilation shafts for the Clem Jones tunnel.
This explains alot. Like the fact that there’s solid concrete under that red skin – no windows or anything like that. At least none that I could see.

Interesting, where in Brisbane is it?

  • Hi Hugh. This one is just next door to the RNA exhibition grounds on Gregory terrace :)

What a great find! I love it.

  • Isn’t it just! This is what faced me as we left the gates of the Exhibition grounds after our day at Supanova. I looked at it and thought “hmmpff!! Seems typical after all I’ve seen today!” ;-)

    I Love the red!

That’s one of the ventilation shafts for the clem jones tunnel. The one at the other end is all jacaranda and white….

  • Ahhh, thanks Mel! That explains why it seems to be just concrete with no windows, and a pretty skin :)
It reminds me of Melbourne……. I wondered if their Town Planner had gone astray ;-)

I love this, Rosemary!!! Amazing structure!

  • It’s certainly a vibrant one isn’t it! Mel tells me there’s a jacaranda coloured one of these at the other end of the tunnel.

I think I’d prefer the red, myself :)

    An excellent shot

  • Thanks John! it was one of those “oh hello there!” moments, when you just don’t have a choice. There’s a giant red building in front of you ;-)

It’s fantastic to hear from you!!

It’s certainly a good way to “hide” the fact it’s a utility, make it stand out so much it becomes public art! You’ve done it justice with your framing, and of course the colours are smashing! Agreed that the jacaranda coloured one isn’t quite so dramatic, but it blends in nicely where it is.

Great shot, art is where you find it.

  • Oh! I’m so sorry I missed your fab comment! You’re right, it certainly is where you find it. I’m getting wherever I can lately :)

    Have a great Christmas!

    Excellent patterns!! :)

  • How rude of me Keith, I totally missed this comment from you!

The patterns are great aren’t they? I love that they decided to make such a boring utility building into something a little bit exciting :)

    Yeah. This is nice. :)

(And might I say brilliant composition!)

  • Thanks! I find it’s often hard to compose a scene like this, so I’m pleased you think I pulled it off :))
