when everything goes to pieces, just remember to breathe.... by

…..breathe…..

It’s so important to do isn’t it. It’s funny how many times I find myself holding my breath in times of stress and hardship, when what I should really be doing is just remembering to breathe.

This is one of my personal favourite things to say to myself, and it’s always followed by one of those deliciously long, deep inhale/exhale yogic types breaths……. and then another….. and another.

Sooo good for the mind, the body, the soul :)

I’m always a little surprised to see that I’ve had a large number of views of this piece since I uploaded it (in May of 2009). This is a somewhat awkward thing since I’m such an introvert in face-to-face situations. The idea of thousands of people looking at me is terrifying.

However, I think, for this one, it’s more about the idea. People seem able to relate to that feeling of closing their eyes and breathing away the stress.

  • Thanks Sarah…. I actually a very high key B&W version of this, but I didn’t think to do the posterized thing……. I should give it a go :))

    Lovely use of light ..
(and your hair colour is gorgeous)

  • Thanks very much Caroline…… it’s a bit hard to get away from the red hair without converting to B&W LOL!! because of the heavy curves adjustment on this one I’ve had to give it quite a lot of de-saturation & my hair is still really red….. luckily I like it that way huh!

Beautiful – you look peaceful and serene, but the title (love it!) tells me that behind the closed eyes there are a million thoughts zooming around :-)

  • You’re spot-on George…… that’s what I was going for, so I’m pleased you could see it.
You know, I used to think titles didn’t mean a great deal, but I’ve come to learn that you can make them a part of the piece rather than just an afterthought.
I’m very pleased you like this :))

Nice one Rosemary….getting infront of the camera is a really plucky thing to do…and you have doen it well. Your of much stouter heart than I!

  • Oh Simon, I’m not so stout of heart….. I just made a decision not so long ago, that I wanted to create some images that were about me….and all that baggage that goes with me! I realised that they wouldn’t be very true images if I used a model other than myself……
Standing in front of the camera is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done…. it’s very confronting! But I feel a sense of satisfaction in completing an image, & I’m slowly feeling comfortable with what I see…..
you should give it a try some day…….. :))
