My Father….
He’s been a Grazier his entire life, but now finds himself in retirement living in a small city…..
No more manual labour, no more getting up before dawn, no more cracked & bleeding hands……
Dad is of that generation of people who dress in their good clothes to go out…. even if it’s only to the supermarket. Clothes must be ironed, & there’s usually a hat involved…..
Somehow I was able to convince Dad to sit for a formal portrait but without dressing up. I wanted to catch him in his work clothes. Clothes that now do the gardening, rather than mustering or shearing sheep all day.

Dignity comes from within, does it not?

Forgot to mention the chair and the wall are divinely matched, and their colouring and tone are a perfect backdrop in the natural light (awesome btw). Is there TA in this?

  • Ahhh, you clever thing you! Yes, I used TA on this…. I think it was vibrance on the clothes & chair, & just a tiny smidgen of detail & sharpening in the skin. I had to bring out most of the lines of the face & hands with dodge & burn…. TA was just really too harsh for what I was trying to achieve.
I’m glad you like the result Peter :))

This reminds me so much of my own Dad……………………pruning roses just is not the same as being the “Gun shearer” on his team.

  • I hear you!! They’re a unique breed, the Aussie Bushman…..

Lovely warm portrait Rosemary. He looks like he is trying to stifle a chuckle. His lifes work does show through in the texture of the skin on his hands and face……and you look like your dad!

  • Oh! I never expected someone to say that I look like him…. That’ll put a grin on his face!
