The Choice

Thirteen years ago I tragically lost my greatest friend….. and subsequently almost lost myself.
But somehow; after a very long time; I made a choice….. to live.
I’ve never regretted my decision.

the right decision – and not an easy one – it takes so much more courage to go on living than it does to give up. this is a beautiful photo Rosemary. And it speaks volumes that you have had the strength to keep her photo, to look at it and not crumble. This photo reminds me of the true meaning of ‘grace’.

  • Rosemary Scott replied

You’re so right about courage…. choosing to face the aftermath, knowing that I’d have to live with the memories was very difficult…..

Rosemary, I haven’t been around lately but I happened on this shot and it hit me. This is such a great tribute. I lost my Mom almost a year ago this month and though the pain never goes away making this tribute is helping you and showing your love to your friend. It’s healing and you did an incredible job of creating emotion. Thank you because I feel as though I needed this one as well because I feel as though I have lost a part of myself since my Mom has left. This is so helpful. What a treasure you have made.

  • Rosemary Scott replied

Oh Susan, such lovely words….. yes, the pain never goes away. I’m so sorry you lost your Mom…I’m pleased this has been a help to you.
It’s been such a help to me. It had been a long time coming…. I knew all this time that I had to do something to honor my friend, but nothing seemed fitting until the day that the idea for this came into my head….. then I knew it was the right thing to do.
    Stay strong my friend :))

An outstanding image reflecting the heartbreaking pain of loss. I lost
one of my best friends several years ago and felt devastated when
we knew she could not survive the cancer she so valiantly challenged.
Choosing a poem by Rumi (Autumn Rose Elegy) that I posed as part of
the narrative of my photograph, strange autumn rose is etched in my mind.
You made the right choice and have so much to give to others that
will benefit from the profound experience of losing your best friend. This
image would fit very well in the group I host on RB, the healing journey,
a group of very talented artists, writers and poets who have also dealt
with the loss of a loved one. My photograph “Lifetimes” also deals with
the life cycle, particularily relating to books for children that deal with the
death of a loved one. You may know of the groundbreaking book, On Death
and Dying written by Helen Kubler Ross. I hope you post this wonderful
image in the healing journey and I look forward to viewing more of
    your portfolio.

    On Death and Dying.

  • Rosemary Scott replied

Julie, Thankyou so much for your insightful comment. I’ve been somewhat surprised by the attention this image has received. When I created it I never expected it to touch so many….. I did it to help myself move on. It has been so touching to see how many have been moved by this, & it warms me to think that my little piece of art might help others heal too. I have added the image to your group. Thankyou for making me aware of it….. it’s a wonderful thing you’re doing, & I’m sure it has helped many in their journey through the pain to healing.
    Many Thanks Julie :))
