Scottish Mystery
The original shot was taken at Duffus Castle (and can been seen in my work). I decided to have a play around with Photoshop to see if I could create a ‘water’ effect. and this was the result.
For those who are interested in the process, here is what I did…..
1. Create a new layer and select the part of the photo that I wanted to have ‘reflected’.
2. Paste this part into the new layer, and then do a vertical rotation.
3. Create a new layer above this one, and filling it in with a solid blue colour.
4. Add ‘noise’ to this layer
5. Add a motion blur to the layer
6. Add ‘bas relief’ to the layer
7. Blend this layer to the layer containing the vertical photo flip.
The rest of the effects were achieved by hue/saturation changes, dodging & burning, general tidying up and some cutting/pasting.

Thanks :) I don’t know if it was the best/easiest way to create water, but I was reasonably pleased with the results for a first attempt :) I’ll practice a bit more in the future. Best wishes

I know the process except dodging and burning…. Isn’t that what one hears about Hades???? Sorry Gary, but I know this is many many layers and tweeking and you have accomplished an amazing image for all your work…. a fav… I’ll come back again to see how this is done!!!!
Gary Murison replied
LOL, yeah I think that Hades got there before Photoshop :)
Dodging and Burning is basically a process to darken or lighten areas. It is great for adding contrast to an image. Best wishes.
Ric Alexander
Nice image and very well done for taking time to put your technique down here. It is a nice buzz when someone takes time to tell you they used your editing technique on a work they have done.

Thank you very much Ric.
