Dry Dock (Port Orford)

Dry Dock (Port Orford)

The ocean is my mistress, I yearn for her each day
I long to see her tempest, to feel her mists and spray
The taste of salt air draws me, to comb her hair of sand
Her stormy face excites me, it’s touched by Gods own hand

The frothy foam of glorious waves, reach deep into my heart
The pain from being without her, could tear my soul apart
She bares herself in rain and shine, and pulls me from within
To see the glorious vision there, and care not who I’ve been

I go to dance on cloudy slopes, above her skin that shines
To hear her serenade me with a symphony and rhymes
Colors of blue and gray and orange, of silver and of gold
I cannot pull myself away, for countless hours untold

So oft with nature’s fury, she tries to push me back
With body dark and sullen, with clouds above so black
Her winds can chill with numbing pain, sand can fill my eyes
But I leave not nor turn away, though it would be more wise

Her beauty mesmerizes me, her taste it seems so sweet
Even times when easily, she knocks me off my feet
Her coldest eyes bear down on me, I try to hold my ground
Howling winds make words unheard, there is no other sound

From her depths cry many a soul, and many too from shore
Beauty called with a gentle voice, unheard by them her roar
A marriage made in heaven, then turned to living hell
When her victims die too easily, lost within her swells

Her never ending beauty called, with such a gentle voice
And so they went with anxious hearts, they really had no choice
For when she grabs the inner soul, there is no letting go
The calling cannot be ignored, the desire can only grow

And so they come each passing day, in boat and on her shores
Unknowingly their lives to risk, for what she has in store
So wish me well and say a prayer, for go I must and shall
If she’s not kind to me this day, this is my last farewell

In memory of those who have perished in the sea.
