I have three kelpie working dogs that give me enormous pleasure. Like most working dogs they spend a lot of their day on long chains.( No dogs can be loose on farms). This is so like the totally relaxed but acutely watchful look they have, ready to bound up at the first sight of action in the house as they come with us everywhere and as soon as they see us bound into action. It is like your family picture, expressions marvellously caught and I have been trying to analyse how you do it. I saw a wonderful exhibition of Picasso drawings. The same thing, lines suggesting a whole story and say more than a photograph can. I keep coming back to your work.and just love it.

Thank you so much Ann, your comments are really flattering and encouraging.
I drew this on a scrap of notepaper while Jess was sleeping but she shifted before I finished. I kind of liked it unfinished though, so I left it. Unfortunately just a few days later, our beloved Jess escaped and was killed by a hit and run driver, so this drawing really means a lot to me. It was drawn with lots of love!

I too like that unfinished body. I think it is great like that. Your attention is concentrated on the eyes and ears. Head relaxed eyes and ears alert, so very dog like.My son’s first Kelpie was so much loved by us. Her name was Yap and the current three are her descendents. I hope you have this drawing framed on your wall.
