This was one of my first ever Acrylic portrait paintings.I painted this painting from a photograph of a woman in a mail order catalog that came to my mother’s house when I was in college. I started painting as a child because it was a challenge for mer personally to learn how to paint. So when I saw this photograph, I thought this would make a great portrait painting. It was a challenge to create her strands of hair, the fibers in the sweater and show the sun shining through wood boards of the fence in the background. This painting and her pose had such a humbleness, such humility and peace that you do not often find in people nowadays where arrogance, narcism and cruelty seem to be the norm, resulting in the highest divorce rate and destruction of the family that history has ever known. I loved the peace and tranquility that came from this women’s pose and I hope there is a lesson to be learned from it for all who see it. May the peace that passes all understanding fill your hearts and minds as you view this painting.
