I found this truck (1940s) beside a barn in Valle Crucis, NC, a valley farm community in the North Carolina mountains. I have named it Popeye.“Popeye” is an expression used for a vehicle that has only one working headlight.

Jane girl…..you are one after my own heart!!! Been there many times!!!! Only wish, I had found this one… ha.! Just fantastic…..and I remember the saying too!!. XXXX
THank you, Elaine. This old truck is on the main road in VC and about 1/2 mi from Mast Store. It is next to an old barn with 2 story white farm house on other side of it. THere is a riding stable there. On my site, there is a photo of the old house with 2 horses called “Ready to RIde.” I feel like this old truck will still be there waiting for you next time you pass that way! Re the popeye expression-I hadn’t heard it in a long long time but when I saw this truck I suddenly remembered it again.

Don’t it just make you want to drag it home and pamper it!
I could put it in my front yard and use the back for a flower bed I guess!!!heehee
This is an instant favorite, Jane. Vehicles of today just don’t have the character of these old dudes.
THank you CraigsMom. I thought the old truck had character too!
Oooooh I’m sooo shocked that you wouldn’t want to give it a new shine! All it would take is about 20 gallons of wax, lot of elbow grease and some misc parts, readily available in Hong Kong! On second thought, it has more character this way!
I like the rusty look!!!Heehee
Thank you, AngieM!!!! It was an interesting old truck!
Thank YOU Jane!! I took the directions down. I need to get out that way, anyway! There is a lot of pretty landscape in the route we take, from E. Tn. Going through Roan Mtn, and then, I guess through Newland.. Oh well, have forgotten which route, as hubby always drives! It would be great to take some pix inside Mast, if they would let you! Hope they do. Too bad the leaves are all gone now. But I hope we do get the opportunity. Life doesn’t slow down, even if you are retired! :) XX
Congratulations you have been featured in Rural Around The Globe. BigD
Thank you very much Big D!
The colors are superb on this image. Everything is complimentary to the wear and tear on this poor old truck. Wonderful find and capture!
Thank you, Joanne, for your comments. The building next to it is an old barn that looked like it had had a lot of wear and tear too but was in good condition and still being used.
