WHat particularly drew me to this scene were the patterns of light and shadow on the rocks and leaves. Taken on an Autumn afternoon in Jacob’s Fork River, South Mountain State Park, NC. Figuring out a way to get from one slippery and mossy rock to another in order to take the photo was a real challenge too-especially carrying tripod and camera equipment.

    thank you Antanas. I had to be very careful figuring out which slippery mossy rocks to jump to in the stream in order to get this close to it. Was a little tricky. Didn’t want to end up in the water!

    Thank you, chen. I went back about a week later and couldn’t find the place where I had taken this photo. Had to go through some rhododendrum thickets to get to it but coudn’t find the same ones when I went back..

    First impression was of Gold, like coins scattered on the rocks, and the frantic quality of the stream, and you’re right, it’s the light that does it to the rocks! Very lovely and unique!

    Thank you,,aaronc. Yesterday I saw some pretty waterfall scenes and took about 57 pictures. When I got home and reviewed them, the picture weren’t too great so I ended up deleting them all. Oh well, guess there are good waterfall days and bad waterfall days. Yesterday was a bad waterfall day!!!!

    Thank you, David. This place is only a few minutes from where I live so maybe I can go back and photo it again this winter. However, I do think the autumn leaves really helped this photo. They will be gone but maybe a little snow will be on the rocks then.

    Yes, Jane, I do ! I got one, just after they came out.. and have loved it! I still don’t know all there is to know about mine either, and probably won’t. I do want to do what you have done, but don’t know exactly how to slow the speed down… I know it has to do with the Aperture….....But its never been clear to me how you do that. Maybe I will learn some day. :) Thank you….and your images are so beautiful!

    This was one of my first times trying the slower exposure. I think I took about 100 photos while there then ended up deleting most of them. Maybe 8 or so were “keepers.”
