The Last Popeye
Rustic old truck (1940’s) on farm in North Carolina mountains.
PS…... Since posting this, I have had some inquries asking what Popeye has to do with this photo. Many years ago, in the Southeastern US and maybe other areas, a vehicle that had only one headlight shining was called a “Popeye.” Hope that explains it a little better.
The Last Popeye belongs to the following groups:
All of North Carolina, Dilapidated Buildings and Rustic Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

Great truck. I like you composition of this shot. Is that an outhouse I see?
Jane Best replied
Thank you, CraigsMom. Yes-it IS a real outhouse though I doubt if it has been used recently. I didn’t look to see though as might have found a copperhead snake or two!
Chuck Wickham
This is a wonderful look back in rural history. These things will soon be gone forever, but will live on in this photo. Just one of the great things photography does. Makes this special!
Jane Best replied
Thank you, Chuck. You are exactly right that scenes like this are disappearing so it is nice to find a few here and there that are still standing.

love it and love your explanation!!! We would call out “PaDiddle!” when we saw one!! LOL!!!
Jane Best replied
Thank you, Lois. Interesting that you called one PaDiddle. WOnder how that word came about. It used to be a game didn’t it.
Diane Schuster
Great shot, Jane, I love the popeye thing, we also used to call a moving vehicle with only one headlight lit a pediddle and I’m not sure why!
Jane Best replied
Thank you dolphindancer. Lois, above, mentioned that pe or pa diddle was the word that was used in her area too. Never heard that expression before but it is cute!
