Artist's Description

This 1905 Darracq set the Land Speed Record at over 100 miles / hour in France in 1905.
An amazing piece of Edwardian engineering – consisting of a 25.4 litre V8 engine , a rear transaxle and a pair of slim chassis rails weighing around 1000Kg.
In 1908 it raced on the sands at Saltburn on the Sea in North Yorkshire achieving an astounding 121.57 miles / hour in the hands of the very brave Sir Algernon Lee Guiness.
After many years of neglect and promised restoration it was bought by Mark Walker who performed a superb restoration – returning the car to Saltburn as the centrepiece of the Saltburn Hill Climb in 2010.
