This shot was taken at the point where the march ended, capturing the moment when the cigarette – which up till then had remained in the holder, unlit – was finally removed, the drag persona momentarily dropped, and that first, long, drag was taken, with a visible sigh of relief. Pride March Victoria is one of the premier events of Midsumma, Melbourne’s annual Queer Celebration. The march recognizes and celebrates the people and events that inspire the courage, solidarity, pride, and diversity within Victoria’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, intersex and transgender community.
