End Of Days
Night falls
as the murmur of voices
is heard
from the edge of the sea
fishermen heaving their boats
o’er the strand
to lie in the lee
safe from the waves
and tide
on the shore
fishermen singing
and mending their nets
in a pool of sunglow
by the edge of the sea
deep shadows
clear etched
as black as can be
against the day’s end
a picture to save
of a hard simple life
a vanishing way
like the sun as it sets
on a near perfect day
