beauty in simplicity (big smile) ... the poem is yours? well done (big smile)
Scott Bricker replied
thanks much…haven’t had a chance to make the rounds yet, but I will (soon)!
got a couple more in this ‘Purity’ series…these take about an hour each to upload…I render for very large prints…

I noticed! I mine as 3840×3840px … on my computer double that would probably take about four hours to render (sigh) ... I set apo at 2000 quality .. just curious what settings do you use for your renders?
Scott Bricker replied
sorry…losing track of comments already…
I usually use from 500-2000; have done to 50,000…have done many test renders to test the ‘quality’ setting, and noticed almost no difference (very little) except render time…have rendered Apo to 40hrs.+(‘Infinite Replication’; not up yet);
with zoom slider set out, and scale up; at about 500qual., that woud take about 45min. with no noticable loss of quality; rendering large and compressing it down to smaller size (prints, cards, screen, etc.) is in effect oversampling (takes monumental amounts of RAM to oversample this size image in Apo)-have dual core AMD 3ghz/4GB RAM
uploading really sucks, tho…about 30-60min. per image usually (DSL)...ugh!

I’ve got a dual core Intel 3ghz but only 2GB on this box (sigh) ... still it’s a good ‘puter and renders in resonable time thank goodness … sometimes patience isn’t my strongest suit (grin) .. am limited by memory .. found that out already .. but still it’s good enough for now .. soon as I can more memory for this box if I can (forget is 2gigs is the max or not AND a newer better faster lol computer soon too (lol one of these days (grin)) ..
right now I have wifi to our isp .. sis wants to commit to DSL … wants to save money .. well needs to cut back on expenses … but then again Qwest says we have DSL but still hedges on it … we got the modem, etc. we’ll see … if it isn’t as good as what we already have I may bite the bullet and give her the difference to keep our wifi … only thing bad about the wifi is that during the spring thunderstorms we can lose our connection but then again I really don’t want to have my ‘puter plugged in with the horrendous thunderstorms/lightning/etc. that we get around here ..
how fast is your DSL? should be at least 1.5Mbps our wifi is 1.4 and upload time isn’t too bad … one time I clocked 5 min for one of my largest files … definitely not as big as your files are though … I heard cable (if hardly anyone is on your line) is amazingly fast .. no cable here to check that out… we live three miles out of town in the county …
thanks for the info Scott .. always so much to learn .. exciting too (smile) appreciate it (smile)

sorry for the slow response…
1.5Mbps, but upload is WAY less (damn!)
most of my files uploaded are low compression .jpg’s over 50Mb…
have 4GB RAM, but only 3.2 usable; (XP 32bit); thinking of going to 64bit and 8GB (money, money…)
owlspook
ya money money money .. something in short supply around here … am drooling over a 64bit with 8gigs too … don’t want vista ever .. got xp need it for some graphic programs that don’t run under Crossover in Linux (me linux gurl) ... don’t remember if I told you that … for the life of me I don’t remember if I’m running a 64bit version or the 32bit … I always tell myself I should write it down and never do … but if I had to guess it’s the 32bit one … oh well … like I said always wanter bigger better faster in my ‘puters and to think I was so happy eons ago with an old cp/m (pre-dos) ‘puter with a miniscule amount of memory … or even the macSE I had for a few years .. then there was that 386-40 .. real screamer .. top of the line .. actually I still wish I had it along with all the scroller and text games I had that would run on it .. oh well it’s history now hehe …
sis still hasn’t connected to the DSL yet .. she actually wanted me to do it and I won’t .. she’s capable to do it … I just have this horrible feeling my connection will get worse too … oh sigh …
Scott Bricker replied
have messed around w/Ubuntu, Knoppix, Mandrake,SuSi,etc., but almost all fract progs are for PC…(without hassle, anyway)...haven’t heard of crossover, like wine? haven’t had much luck w/emulators…
u prob have 32bit if you haven’t had to hassle with finding 64bit drivers, etc….
thinking of dropping DSL and paying the $$$ for cable…this slow upload is a major pain in the ass…
America is backwoods when it comes to broadband…
owlspook
yes Crossover uses Wine and adds upon it, I believe .. commercial product … easier to deal with than just plain wine IMHO .. can run UF Apo and Sterling2 with ease under it .. and PaintShopPro .. fractal vizon and tierazon I don’t think so .. have them on the old win box .. haven’t tried everything yet (grin) ..
yup you’re right I believe .. got 21bit linux MINT .. tried many before this one … love the live CD’s since I can play around with the distros whenever I feel like it and not mess with my system … I could have dual booted this one with winXP but thought I’d just get another ‘puter and dual boot that (one of these days (grin)) ...
I agree hardily … America is the backwoods with broadband (sigh) ... and wyoming even more so … since we’re basically rural with very little population there is a lot less choice and we end up paying a lot more for our access (sigh) ... good luck with the cable if you choose to get it … only thing besides being faster is how many people are running with you on that cable .. thought I remember reading the more neighbors who are using it the slower you access can be … but it’s been years since I checked into it …
