Selling your photos?

Just wondering how many people are managing to sell their photos/cards?

i have bought photos till now…but i did not manage to sell any!
am i doing something wrong? or is it the wrong season to promote?

I am not here for sales, but when I make one, I am pleased. I joined this site to compare my work to others. Although mine is substandard to many others, I am learning a lot by looking at others work, and trying different techniques to make myself better, and boost my confidence in presenting my work to a different audience. I know that RB is not going to make me a millionaire, but I am so pleased to have got some recognition. It all takes time Christian.

I am not here purely for sales (although it would be nice!).
I read somewhere on the site that the RB staff like to feature a new members work, so that they may become better known.
A friend and I both joined in December 2007, so both of us have not been here long. However, her first works were featured and mine werent; she has already achieved a sale or two and I haven’t.
NO sour grapes here – I am simply enjoying the RB experience, but I do wonder if some people get better exposure (forgive the pun!) which in turn lead to increased sales figures. It is also a fact that some peoples work here is simply stunning and they deserve every success.
I would add that your work looks really great and I am sure you will soon achieve your first sale anyway! Keep submitting…...!

Yeah …I agree with all of you. I know that everybody will be happy with a sale…not because of the money (at least you need to do some 5-10 sales to receive your first £20)...but knowing that somebody is really appreciating your work and that he paid for it…ot attach it to a wall in his/her house.
If redbubble was my “job” i would go out all day taking photos,,,,and dont sleep at night to upload them!! and on the 7th day i would go to the bank to withdraw all the earnings!!! LOL !!!

hope all of you sell all that good work!!

I joined RB in July last year and it took until October/ November before I sold something, I guess I was lucky.
I left RB on the 1st January 08 and rejoined on the 2nd January 08, and sold another image today. I guess it depends on what people like and what they are looking for.
Some members do very well on RB, some don’t.
Each individual has there own taste.
If I sell something else on RB, good, but if I don’t it doesn’t matter.

    Hi Christian,

I’ve only been here a few days and I wonder how anyone finds anything LOL Perhaps an idea would be to buy a couple of your own art works (cards), maybe that is a way to promote yourself.

Hi Cristian,,,Well we are in the same boat by the sounds of things…I am lucky that my work does go hand in hand with my job, cause if i was haveing to pay for air fills every i’d go broak with in a week. Some people seem to get more sales by giving some of the profits to certain charities, witch is a fantastic thing to do, but where you and i live chris where would we give it too and would we be sure it did not go somewhere else, as the comfusion with the euro is bad enough.

I think it is a matter of just sitting tight and exploring where else you could sell…. As your work is very good!!

Sit tight mate and see what happens….

Hi there, I’m here mainly to check out other artists works and to get inspiration to try more digital art. I have sold a few cards and I have purchased some. I have just bought another six of mine tonight as they are nice to use as personalised gifts to friends. The biggest kick I got was two days after joining someone bought 2 (maybe it was 3) cards and I was thrilled. A couple of weeks later I found out it was my daughter in law and because of my excitement, neither her nor my son wanted to burst my (Red) bubble. Just be patient and buy a couple of your own…also the more you participate in RB by commenting on other works, the more peopl look at your work as well…...P

Been here since November and as yet have not sold anything. I have bought some cards though and also some of my own work – mainly to see what it looked like other than as a photograph!
Guess as someone else has already said it is luck and the right person seeing the right thing for them at the right time….
I now enjoy looking at the work here and the fact that other people are looking at mine that it doesn’t bother me not selling.
It is now more the community spirit for me.
    Good luck…

It has been interesting to read all your comments.

My husband has suggested that we need to promote redbubble more ourselves. If you click on the promote button there are many ways that one can put logos with a link back to redbubble on your website or emails. This way we can spread the word to others that are possible purchasers and outside the circle of fellow photographers.

I also really appreciate the comments on my work by others in redbubble, it is a really a good support system. There is such an amazing quality, makes this hobbyist quite humble to be part of it.

    Hi Christian!

I’ve been here since September 2007 and have sold 2 cards, one of each image. Oh BOY was I proud of those sales too! However, like the others I can’t give up my day job either! LOL I think some of your chance of selling depends on the right person seeing your work. Therefore, I recommend you get yourself seen as much as possible and the best way to do that I find is to go look at others and appreciate others work. Let people know you enjoy their work and you will get noticed in turn. The more you’re noticed, the better chance the right person will see your work and the better your chances are.

I had a look at your work and I think it’s fantastic so I imagine it is only a matter of time and patience and you’ll make a sale soon!

    Good Luck!!

Since I joined redbubble in October 2007 I have had 8000 views but have only sold one small laminated print and one card. Not enough to have been paid anything yet…
HOWEVER I have received hundreds of postive comments and stacks of favourites. Comments and favourites don’t pay the bills but they have lead me to many other talented and helpful artists / photographers.

The supply definately outways the demand at the moment. I strongly agree that we all need to promte red bubble as much as we can…

I agree, I wonder how many art BUYERS visit redbubble? I love it on here, I’ve learn’t so much from so many talented peope, but it definitely needs to be promoted more to people who actually buy work. I’m pleased to see redbubble on facebook and growing more and more every day, its only a matter of time… :) (I hope!)

    this is very true.
i have created the VIDEO MONTAGE group.
you join and upload a photo/image to the group.
i then go thru the photos and compile them into videos. and post them on video sites like youtube.
we have made 6 vids so far.
    3 of just random work.
2 of themes – RED and BLUE
    1 of theme TSHIRTS.
all the vids include a link to this site plus letting them know they can buy the artwork…

some memebers of the group inform me they have had increased views and comments, but as to sales who knows..

many a youtube member has informed me they hace since joined redbubble…

and as for actual sales… personally i think tshirts sell more than anything else.

hope you sell stuff, and check the redbubble videos out here

I’ve sold a few works from here. I think it all has to do with marketing. I’m trying something new to get traffic to my page, so we will see what happens.
