How safe is your work???
Stolen Work appearing on deviantART
Kindly be advised that a deviantART member with user name tropicalpassion is stealing work from here and upload them on deviantART.
One of my pictures was stolen.
I can assure you that RB does it best for works not to be stolen. In fact, only thumbnails or ver small works can be stolen. When I tried to compare the resolution of the art that was stolen, the one which is on deviantART is hopeless.
The link where the stolen work is Stolen Work
You can check there and comment on the stolen art…...some RB members have already done so.
We are a strong community…so let us show them who we are.
Regards,
Rachel Stickney
I’ve already left a nasty comment for this loser and reported him, as have many others. I just don’t get these thieves – they have no conscience at all I guess. Sorry one of your works was stolen. Hope that scumbag gets what he deserves.
Christian Zammit replied
thanks Rachel

I’m so sorry one of those pieces was yours. I don’t know who these people think they are but there has to be away to stop this.
Christian Zammit replied

Just featured this to help alert others.
Christian Zammit replied
i already tried to do so…
Diado
Rather than going on about it on here and leaving comments on that person’s profile, neither of which will get the art removed, just report it to deviantART and they’ll remove the works – there’s a link on every ‘deviation’ page allowing you to report it, along with how severe the problem is and the ability to provide a link to the original piece to help deviantART determine that it has indeed been stolen. They are a huge site and take copyright violations very seriously.
Christian Zammit replied
thanks for your remarks.
I had already done so some 10hours ago, and I believe I was not the only one.
That was the first thing that I did
The art is still there (and in poor resolution).
I only created the journal to make people aware what type of things can happen on the Internet (and not on RB).
Morgana Creely
I have reported this theft and other in the gallery.
Christian Zammit replied
thanks…..so we are a group now…not just individuals….
I have reported it some 10 hours ago…but no response till now!!

What a scumbag!!!!! How awful for you!
Christian Zammit replied
I did not take it so badly….as these things happen everyday on Internet.
I am not saying that I am happy…
Mika
Oh wow that really sucks! Ive had my rant and swear fest at both the person on dA and the staff, ill feature this too just so people are more alert.

Leaving rude, offensive comments, regardless of how angry you are, just gives RedBubble users an undeserved bad name.
Mika: Why rant at the dA staff, they’ve done nothing wrong – they (like RedBubble) can’t moderate every work that’s uploaded and check that it’s not stolen before allowing it to be published, the uploader takes accepts responsibility for that when they upload. Respectfully reporting the issue to deviantART by the very prominent means that they provide is they way to go about getting the issue resolved.
Christian: That’s the way to do it :) They’ll deal with is as soon as they are able – they have literally many millions of users and lots of reports to deal with daily as they’re much larger than RedBubble. They have an entire team dedicated to copyright issues, and remove any offending works as soon as they are aware of them.
Christian Zammit replied
thanks

It wasn´t meant to be literally. Sorry!

That’s it, if we all keep an eye out , we will beat them. It is so fantastic to see that every body is so supportive . I love the Redbubble spirit!!!!!!!! I had a look on those other sides and I must say. Nothing beats Redbubble and it’s members!!!!!!!!!! Cheers to you all , Esther

Sorry someone stole your art Christian, I find it such a shame that someone, anyone feels that they have to steal someone else’s art or ideas to feel creative, when all it really takes is a cheap digital camera or some freeware programs to get creative. Maybe looking at the theft from another perspective is what is needed, when somebody copies our clothes we generally feel flattered that they like our tastes. So look at it that way somebody liked your work so much that they wanted it to be their own. Of course that doesn’t make theft acceptable but then this is life and this is the internet. All my best :-) Kate
Christian Zammit replied
yes….it is true….
I can say that my work was interesting for somebody…..
...enough to try and make make out of it!!!

I believe that Diado has the correct attitude here. I like many have created a Journal entry warning people of this flagrant disregard of copyright.
Leaving a comment on deviantART to alert other viewers that the image has been stolen is a good idea, however, please try not to be offensive as this only reflects on RB in the long run. If possible, in your comment, if you can include a link to the original work in RB, then that may be a positive step as some of the DA viewers will click on the link and may subsequently be made aware of RB (they may not have heard of us).
Reporting the violation to DA at violations@deviantart.com is also the way to go, but as Diado rightly pointed out, you MUST allow DA time to do their own investigation. Politely supplying as much information as possible (such as the link to the original work on RB) will help DA’s investigations and should help to speed up the process.
I believe that this thief’s days on DA are numbered and hopefully, if DA can trace them they may take more action than just kicking them off the site.

There is a service to track image works in the internet
TinEye You upload an image or paste url (requires to register)
iI does not give 100% results, especially if an image was edited, but it is quite good.
If your works are good and catching the eye, kids like them, then… you would find lots of copies ripped, presented at blogs, free stock accounts etc. For instance my hearts “love love love”: http://www.redbubble.com/people/narabia/art/1017096-4-love-love-love can be found on more than 80 pages… I stopped fighting with them :(
Christian Zammit replied
you cannot fight againt the unknown

I’m sorry to hear about the theft of your work, Christian. I think the theives can get away with this all too often. They do this so that they have the benefit without any effort. It is good to see that at least some are being caught. Too bad that the penalty will only be a suspension or a gallery removal. They only end up setting shop elsewhere. It would be a good deterrent if there was legal action, but it would be too costly for the website owner in the long run.
Christian Zammit replied
it is nearly impossible to locate the thief!!
no problem with me!!
if he had demanded me to use my photo…i would have been happy to do it!!

Hey Christian! I reported the work on dA – and as of a few minutes ago, the account has been suspended and the work has been removed. YAY!! :D
That guy was such a toad.

I just noticed that your link of the perpetrator/thief now said: “This person has been banned from deviantART permanently.” Congrats! time to celebrate this victory, one down, who knows how many others to go. Glad we set an example with this one. What a rude awakening to find people with such low self steam that they want to pass somebody else’s work for their own. Sorry to hear this happened to you, you are a great artist and contributor to this site, love your work, and I don’t like that he used the name ‘Tropical Passion’ either it gives the Tropics a bad name.
Christian Zammit replied
good one!!
thanks for your nice comment…
but do not praise me so much…
i am not a great artist!!

Hurray, he is banned! Oh well, it does not stop him from creating another gallery with a different name. Do websites track IP addresses, I’m curious?
Christian Zammit replied
they can track ip…..
but i think it involves lots of works…
and they can use different ips….. etcc

looks like the person is already banned!

Sad news for those of us who want to protect our work, RedBubble is pretty much the state of the art.
IP tracking only works if the offenders ISP cooperates. They can track who used which IP address when, and most do, thats one of the ways police bring down kiddie porn gangs. Given the difficulty the major movie companies are having enforcing copyright, our chances are zero.
As for identifying stolen work again we have limited hope. Canon’s original idea system (I’m sure the other manufacturers have similar systems) actually works against us. It proves an image is unmodified, so modfying an image undetectably supports a claim that the image is original. Any other system will fall foul of this problem.
A question for the sysadmins, does the system record the date an image was originally uploaded?
This is information that would back the creator’s claim the image had been stolen. Sorry to suggest something that could cause you guys more work, prehaps it should be displayed with the image.
Christian Zammit replied
i fully agree with you
Veronicar
I didn’t want to put my photo’s on the internet for that reason. I have a water mark on my work I hope but can you take that off? Cropping would eliminate it I would think. I love my photo’s and they are personal to me. If someone stole it I think I would pull out. Can we secure them anymore?
