London Calling, You Have Been Disconnected
My Entry in the “London Calling” competition … I wanted to give the shadow character a sense of menace, as well as being loyal to what the Union Jack/ Union Flag represents.
I also wanted to give a sense of humour in the metaphor of having the character hold a lone phone handset thats no longer connected; which represents Australia being so disconnected. Being that I am an Australian

Interesting concept and a great use of negative space – top stuff!

Thanks Simon … I really enjoyed this challenge.

Great work SBlundell- I agree with Simon’s comments in his journal entry that it has a bit of a “Bond” feel to it. And you definately convey a sense of menace. This should do very well in the competition.

Thanks Monstar! I never really looked at it coming across in a bond way, I guess I can just call that a happy accident. I wanted to have the image sort of connect to the whole school boy blazer that was popular in the 70’s by mods, and then later by a ton of english bands that came out in the 90’s.
Simon thanks again for the journal entry, its refreshing to see/or hear people’s takes on art.

Really nice!

Thanks Mark! I really enjoyed doing this shirt design, I’m pretty happy with it. By the way checked out your photographs … there are some seriously nice pieces in there.

No worries mate – can I suggest you make this available as a print as well – I could definately see it working just as well on a wall as cotton.
SBlundell
Good suggestion, Simon!
