This site is in dedication to Samuel Berliner, otherwise known as Sam.
Originally an East End Londoner – Sam was born 29th June 1913 – with a fantastic laugh and big heart to match.
Sam’s childhood dream was to be an artist. While at school he won a much coverted scholarship to “the Slade”. However his family wouldn’t allow him to take it. His Father told him that he would starve three times a day if he became an artist! He was a child of the great depression and they told him to ‘get a real job’!
Sam joined the RAAF where he worked in “intellegence” and spent many hours with Winston Churchill in “the famous bunker”.
He ran a successful hairdressing salon in London where he met and married the love of his life Trude who was working as an apprentice in his Salon.
Sam and Trude moved to Sydney, Australia in 1948 where they both ran a hairdressing salon in the suburb of Gladesville.
Sam spent many of his retired years drawing scenes of the English and Australian countryside (mainly from memory) favouring charcoal and pastel. He had a particular love of clouds and was very inspired by Monet and other artists of that era.
This site is administered by both his Daughter, and Granddaughter, who are both members of the fantastic RedBubble community.
So welcome to Sam’s site which is in loving memory of a special and very artistically talented man.
Any money made as profit from his work will be passed onto charity
