Different Drummer Episode IV

Detective Nit (Blue Man) and his partner Meps (Mechanical Employee of Police Squad) have tracked down the evil assassin robot Pique and her assistant, one of the ambiguous Grey Men, and foiled their bomb plot, thanks in part to Meps alert identification of Pique from an earlier encounter . In moments they will be in custody, but at the cost of Detective Nit’s ride… well, he always hated that car.
(No robots were injured in the making of this film)

Awesome scene and work. Great story too. I love breaking news like this! :o)

  • syd baker replied

I wasn’t going to leave Meps looking like a silly robot, just because he dropped his soda, he’s a quality being, and brave too, and he really gets around in saucer mode!!

  • retepk

    Superb work Syd.

    Cheers mate.

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Peter, I wasn’t even finished with Dropped His Soda before I knew I just had to do this, and linking the two scenes was too much fun!

  • syd baker replied

(Looks like Bunny types faster, don’t feel bad, my Mom could type 100 words a minute…)

  • Bunny Clarke

    Bunny Clarke

I type pretty fast Syd. These are great. I love these little bots. :o) More please.

  • retepk

    retepk

No worries Syd. I can type about 30 words a minute as long as it is the words
    “a” or “I”.
    Cheers.

  • syd baker replied

wol, my typong isnn’t quot superbp

  • Danilo Lejardi

    Danilo Lejardi

Great and very complex scene, Syd; right segments seems like movie picture frames. Hard work, indeed!

  • syd baker replied

Thanks so much Danilo, especially coming from you, I got really inspired while still working on Dropped His Cup I had to define girl robot, Pique is her name. I created the city backdrop first, and had so much cool stuff back there my computer ran out of memory, so I simplified things and moved the scene way up high. Surprisingly, one of the hardest things was the net, and it worked first time, I was so surprised!

  • Scott Bricker

    Scott Bricker

    always amazing stuff, Mr. Syd!

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Scott, so far no one has noticed the Episode IV joke, homage to George Lucas for starting Star Wars with Episode 4, then 5, 6, 1, 2, 3!

  • JenLand

    JenLand

I noticed the Episode IV thing, but honestly thought I’d missed 1, 2, & 3 somehow!! So I went looking on your profile page. NOW I get it. heh heh

Fantastic work my friend!!! I’ll be sureptitiously checking in on the hospital computer to see what happens in 1, 2, 3 and 5 & 6!!!

  • syd baker replied

Welllllllll, there isn’t an actual adventure story at this time, but there may be snippets of things later, there will definitely be more robots, and it seems Detective Nit needs a new vehicle, maybe something like the Geiger Recumbent, with a seat for Meps!

  • JKKimball

    JKKimball

    ZAP !!

  • syd baker replied

That’s right! First time doing an action sequence with special effects, that little robot is a brave little guy!

  • linaji

    linaji

This is just completely excellent work Syd.. I think blue man has really stepped up to a great story line!!

  • syd baker replied

Hi Lina, thanks so much, it actually started with the little robot’s Screen Test, and continued with a chance encounter with a memorable character that led to the capture of two notorious assassins! Whew, gotta rest after that!

  • Keith Reesor

    Keith Reesor

    Love it Syd!! :)

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Keith, city scenes are so hard, I spent days creating such a complex backdrop my computer wouldn’t render it, so I pulled out a bunch of stuff and raised everything into the sky. The net model had me the most perplexed, actually, but I needed it because Detective Blue Man doesn’t blast people, he has a stunner, and we needed answers!

  • jewelskings

    jewelskings

I’m with Kieth. This is fantastic! Right out of a Syd comic book!

  • syd baker replied

Thank you, JK, I just fell into a plot line while I was in the middle of THIS ONE and knew I had to bring back Detective Nit , since it’s the same street, different day!

  • Solomon Walker

    Solomon Walker

fantastic work again Syd, the action is incredible!!

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Solomon, bet you didn’t notice it’s the same city block as one of your favorites !

  • Luchare

    Luchare

way cool Syd!!! I get a superhero olympic scifi feel about this

  • syd baker replied

It all started because THIS took place on the same city block as “THIS:http://www.redbubble.com/people/sbaker5/art/2230820-2-blue-man-black-candle-at-midnight and it seemed natural to put Detective Blue Man together with Meps, who instantly became Mechanical Employee of Police Squad. And he turned out to be a brave little dude, in saucer-mode.
And now, you see, even tho they captured the bad guys and solved the case, Detective Nit needs a new ride, maybe something similar to THIS , two seats would be good, hmmm…

  • Brian Towers

    Brian Towers

    Excellent piece of work Syd.

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Brian, our heros make a pretty good team, looks like I’ll have to design a new vehicle for Detective Blue Man, heh heh heh!

  • Von McKnelly

    Von McKnelly

Your work is always fun to view Syd…this makes me want to pick up the controls and play a game. Shall we play a game….

  • syd baker replied

Detective blue Man and partner Meps are definitely worthy team members in anyone’s game! I think the detective will need a new set of wheels too… hmmm, I’m sure I’ve got some parts lying around!

  • LoneAngel

    LoneAngel

    wow .. very nice !!!

  • syd baker replied

Thanks LA, even though these scenes get pretty tedious tweaking everything, it got pretty darn exciting there near the end, I was really tired!

  • jewelskings

    jewelskings

One of my most fav’s of yours! Bravo!

  • syd baker replied

Ohhh, thank you so much! I got so caught up in the excitement of the scene I was exhausted at rendering time!

  • owlspook

    owlspook

sweet syd!! keep ‘um coming (big smile) ... love what you’re doing with the bots! I’d say more but everyone else has said it already! (grin) ... (big smile)

  • syd baker replied

I knew I had to team up Meps and Detective Nit (Blue Man), I actually got pretty excited myself as the image came together! Whew!!

  • owlspook

    owlspook

what I love is how the art or the story can spark our imaginations and voila` (big smile) ... they make a great team .. really am looking forward to more of their adventures together (big smile)

  • syd baker replied

Well for starters, the Detective will need a new set of wheels, maybe something less traditional, eh?

  • owlspook

    owlspook

you betcha since the Interglactic Police Insurance MegaCorp will be paying for it … go with the best! (big smile)

  • syd baker replied

Perhaps his merits in closing the last case will award him something experimental and high tech, with special accommodations for his mechanical partner!

  • owlspook

    owlspook

oh yes indeedee … I’m sure the IPIMC would love the publicity too! just think THEY provided the newest bestest (grin) most high tech police vehicle to heroes who nabbed ‘the evil assassin robot Pique and her assistant, one of the ambiguous Grey Men, and foiled their bomb plot’ that would have devastated the city!! oh ya .. great publicity!! (grin)(smile)

Cool stuff Syd…. Love the action in this one….

BTW the mac totally died again answering your comment earlier on.I think I have found a tekkie down here that’ll llook t it but I won’t have the cash for months to get the job done.

I have it back up for the moment but for how long is anyones guess.

I had the box open and I believe the chip is on the flip side of the motherboard… too much work to go thru to get the job done even if I had the part. One gut seemed a bit shifty.Told me to bring in the machine and he’d run heat over the chip and re-seat it (makes sense as I feel it could well be a bad connection) or it may be a conductor… but he mentioned swapping the MB… and what he showed me was an older one – a power PC…No thanks…

The other option is an authorised technician/distributor. Since Apple do not acknowledge that this is a common fault in this model I am likely to get hit in the pocket…. so things looking decidedly glum… bummer!!!!

Still- I may just use the PC for a while til I have the money and put the wife on the mac if I can get it stable enough. It’ll kill me – smaller screen, Anti spyware and virus checks, frequent visits to msconfig and regedit and constant nag messages from windows to restart etc…but what choice do I have?.... Might find that coded note green gir lleft for blue man!;) What a pair!!!

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Zoo, have done a “before” image and an “after” to create a short sequence around this one for my book, all about Blue guy and friends, you’ll see soon!
So sorry to hear about the Mac, you’re far more familiar with the guts than I, don’t know if this is helpful, but one of the several PC maintenance programs I use is a very thorough free one, CCleaner if you wind up on the PC again. Also don’t know if it helps, but 4 times I have acquired Dell PC’s by financing through Dell online after building the machine online to my specs, it’s a reasonable possibility. More soon!

After doing this I discovered blurb.com and decided to put all the Blue Man adventures together into one long form, did a few new images to make the story even smoother, and show off Detective Blue Man’s new car HERE
