Robot Screen Test

Robot Screen Test

This is my first pose-able robot. At last I got this long involved process to work! It starts with the Groboto free down-loadable Poser template; comes with a tutorial that’s somewhat flawed, but enables you to use the primitive shapes in Groboto to snap in place on the template, that takes a while, then export that to Poser, I guess later versions are best. Then, you apply it to a Poser skeleton, or “bones”, then if all is well, you can apply any pose to your robot, then export THAT to Bryce or Vue, and put into a scene. Whew! I finally had to ask the Groboto forum what I was doing wrong, and finally got this to work. More to come!

Robot Screen Test belongs to the following groups:

Bryce and Beyond - 2 per day, Images for Film, in-between, Sci Fi and Unconventional Artistry - 3 per day Available for sale as

  • syd baker replied

Many thanks for the huge WOW! You should see him when he’s made of clouds, or fire, or water or bricks… very eerie! Stay tuned, this was just the try-outs!

Your diligence has paid off yet again Syd. This is awesome work. I dont know much about Groboto’s.. but I know I really like this that you created~ :)

  • syd baker replied

Ah, this is just the beginning, he’s just trying out for the part! Glad you like!

  • Scott Bricker

    Scott Bricker

awww, what a cute lil’ robot….

  • syd baker replied

Soon there’ll be more, perhaps they’ll help Blue Man in the yard…

  • gerrardt

    gerrardt

those robots are so sexy….i like it that they all have big smiles. They are very well groomed, and they pose like models—-THIS IS AMAZING, AND LOOKS AWESOME.

  • syd baker replied

Next, girl robots and girl poses, evil robots, hero robots… hmmm, sounds like real life!

  • Von McKnelly

    Von McKnelly

A pose-able robot….next thing you know you’ll have a house full of little pose-able robots running around the house begging for lubricant.
Pretty cool stuff you’ve created Mr Baker.

  • syd baker replied

No dog robot, though, I’m tired of cleaning up little heaps of screws and washers… at least I got a magnet!

  • Bunny Clarke

    Bunny Clarke

These are awesome Syd! Just what I had in mind for my next work too. Excellent work!

  • syd baker replied

The process is tedious, but once you have saved it as a Poser model, then the hard part’s over and the fun begins!

  • digitalillusion

    digitalillusion

Syd, you got it cracked dude – I love these robotic creatures!!!

  • syd baker replied

This is a test, all the same guy, when you import this from Poser into Vue, you can have him all one mesh, like these, or individual meshes and assign different textures to different parts. Next, a girl!!

  • Xadrik

    Xadrik

    Very Cool Syd.

  • syd baker replied

Thanks X, you know how you can apply illogical textures in Bryce or Vue? You should see the robot made of liquid…

  • PeterBlake

    PeterBlake

Well worth the effort! Great job!

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Peter, it’s still a lengthy process, sort of like building a model with tweezers, but once it’s a Poser file, the rest is pure fun!

  • Keith Reesor

    Keith Reesor

Amazing creation Syd!! Persistence pays off!!
Just hope Blue Man doesn’t become jealous that your time is being taken up by these “robots”!! :)

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Keith, I thought of that, but somehow I think they’re going to be buddies… that is, unless an Evil Robot comes along, then Blue Man will have to put his trench coat and fedora back on, and he’ll need a faithful sidekick!

  • retepk

    retepk

    Superb job Syd.
    Cheers mate.

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Peter, this is just a test, I didn’t include the brick robot, the water robot, or the one covered in shrubs, they’re for later!!

  • JenLand

    JenLand

Awesome Syd! Can’t wait to see all your magical worlds being populated with these guys. :o) Am I seeing this right? Is the one in the upper right corner doing the FCD?!!!

  • syd baker replied

Ha haaaaaaa!! You indeed have awesome perceptions my dear! Yes of course that HAS to be the FCD, and you can see a similar pose of unbridled exuberance here:

See response to kreesor above for just one possibility this opens up, takes a long time to make one, but the next one will be a girl… oh yes!

  • JenLand

    JenLand

Oh, so many ideas, so little time!! ha ha Yay, it’s going to be a girl!!! Blue man’s having quite a time in this little clip above, it’s almost time for that kind of fun here in the rockies. :o)

  • syd baker replied

It’s the calm before the splash! !

  • owlspook

    owlspook

    Very COOL syd!!! (big smile)

for some reason I missed this one … and the last two … ‘fraid you must have disappeared from my watchlist! OH NO!! to I made sure you’re back on it!! can’t miss your work syd!! it’s all very cool (big smile)

  • syd baker replied

This is just a test of sorts, all morning I’ve been thinking that THIS mode of Blue Man might need a worthy apprentice:

I’m already working on a different detective vehicle that goes with his character… maybe a better hat…

  • owlspook

    owlspook

ooo ooo ya! so are you writing the blue man stories? What I read on the image sounds like a good beginning (big smile) .. even if it’s just mini-snippets like this it would be so cool! (big smile)

  • syd baker replied

I think snippets are all I can manage these days, and each image takes a long time to make. Still, the Blue Man calendar is a story with no words!

  • owlspook

    owlspook

ah so true … rarely have the time for more myself … but I do like snippets .. they really enhance the images and with mine they expand on a story (when I can manage to do it (like Sodenay))

  • syd baker replied

    Snippets are the ticket!

  • zooreka

    zooreka

Syd my friend – going to have to conference with you (witch you??) in the coming weeks on this… finally, finally I am through the round robins… Wasted tired,,,

Definitely looks like fun this… wanna try, wanna try!!!

  • syd baker replied

Say the word, I’m going to guess you don’t need Poser 7, maybe version 5 or 6 would work, first step for you is to go HERE and download the Poser template, comes with a .pdf that’s important. Oh yeah, I’ll do my best to steer you through the trouble spots!!

  • zooreka

    zooreka

cool – Thanks for the link… I will get back to ya…

  • Lucindawind

    Lucindawind

    SNAPPYDAVE

    great imagry

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Dave, I was pleased how this little guy worked out in his first co-starring role in a police drama, HERE is a clue to the result!

  • Betty Mackey

    Betty Mackey

    Terrific!!! Fun, too.

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Betty, he was just an experiment who became the partner of my alien police detective and a hero too, click HERE to see more of him. His name is Meps.

  • Luchare

    Luchare

no waaaaay, what a great idea to use groboto to make robots?! Like the first comment – WOW

  • syd baker replied

The trick is you have to have Poser too, and you have to download their Groboto/Poser template and do this tedious process with slightly outdated instructions, but if successful, you have a robot that accepts all these Poses poses who can be imported into Vue or Bryce for materials and rendering. Whew! If you have Poser5,6, or 7, I can show you.

  • Betty Mackey

    Betty Mackey

    He can do anything! Great!

  • syd baker replied

Hee hee, lot of me in there!
