Greenwater Landscape 02
This is collaboration 02 of 3 with Owlspook, using her fractal Green Water Pond. This is still warming up, changing her artwork into a 3D landscape in Vue Esprit; this one is more stripey, but not a radically different view from number 01, a different time of day though.
The artwork was tiled in a 4square pattern two different ways in psd, then each brought into the landscape program and pushed together like this:

Several interesting places were located and test renderings and materials were done over time. Versions 01, 02, and 03 were the most satisfactory.
Greenwater Landscape 02 belongs to the following groups:
! 100% !, "Exceptional Ekphrasis", Alien Worlds and Landscapes, Bryce and Beyond - 2 per day, Imaginative Realism, In Another World .., in-between, Live, Love, Dream: May you have a Blessed Christmas Season , Sci Fi and Unconventional Artistry - 3 per day Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

Scott Bricker
wow, you do amazing work, Syd!
syd baker replied
Thanks my friend, once you have a place to start, you fly your camera over the image at the left, pausing to take note of interesting formations and compositions, just like you were hiking around! then trying dozens of textures and atmospheres, it’s mad scientist time, I tell you!!!
linaji
wow.. what a great close up!! 3 D land is so gorgeous!
syd baker replied
It gets pretty weird when you paint on the land with a brush and it crumbles and erodes, or, builds up higher and makes plateaus or peaks, if I do it for too long, I start to feel really very large… !
JKKimball
such a cool series Syd!
syd baker replied
Many thanks, been a while since I played with rocks, mountains and sky, and anyone can sit and try out flat images as terrains all day!
Lynda Robinson
I am amazed at all these images Syd! You have a lot of fun!!!!
syd baker replied
The real fun is when I become a tiny tourist with a tiny camera and start hiking around the landscape taking snapshots! In this world I can fly too!
JenLand
Wonderful rock formations with the sea in the distance! You are quite the master Syd!!
syd baker replied
It gets even better, you can paint right on the landscape with a brush and raise it up, also carve it down, throw small rocks onto it, turn it inside out, dig a hole, like it was made of goo!
Keith Reesor
Incredible!! :)
syd baker replied
Thanks Keith, I kept coming to the edges of this one until I made a 4square of it, then another for good measure, then pushing them together seemed logical. In fact one of the samples looks like an Aztec arena with tiers, hmmm…...
Viv King
Wow! Even though I don’t know much about digital work I can appreciate this for its depth, light and detail. better than real life!
syd baker replied
Thanks Viv, this is a 3D landscape I can move around in and look at different sides of, and move the sun and even change the sky, it’s so much fun!!
Xadrik
This is my favourite of what I have seen of the series. It looks like you would have some viable natural defences here.
syd baker replied
Especially if you consider the scale, I’m thinking that wall is maybe 60 feet high or more.
Luchare
GREAT!!! :OD
syd baker replied
Thanks so much, it’s so surreal to create a little world and then go hiking on it, while you change the weather and move the sun around!
owlspook
the high desert plains and mountains .. big sky country (big smile) ... oooo eeee!!!
such wonderful worlds you can create syd!! I just may have to install bryce on the ol’ windows computer … ah darn I know it won’t handle it (sigh) ... you got me itching for a better ‘puter even more so now! lol … just keep these beauties a ‘comin’ I sure enjoy visiting them (big smile)
syd baker replied
Glad you’re inspired! You just gave me an idea, on the terrain model above, I could put a little red circle and an arrow, indicating the place and direction of the view. I started doint these in Bryce, all the first things I uploaded were the best of those, but Vue does them better, enables me to increase the resolution of the rocks for a more crumbly texture, but Bryce has better alien skies.
owlspook
can you do the rocks in Vue and go back and put the skies in with Bryce? or is it a one way ticket?
syd baker replied
In either Bryce or Vue, you can choose to render with an alpha channel, that gives you a separate rendering that can be loaded into Photoshop and (several steps later) masks out the sky. Then you can create a rendering in Bryce that is only sky, load that into Photoshop and composite them. the trick is to make sure the light is coming from the same direction in each. Complicated, but yes, it can be done.
owlspook
thanks for letting me know .. ever curious to learn (big smile) ...
syd baker replied
Here is an example of alpha rendering, except the sky came straight from the Hubble telescope:
Alpha masks can capture every detail and leaf far better than doing it manually in Photoshop, although that’s an alternative.
adgray
Another STUNNING EKPHRASIS BRAVO!!!
syd baker replied
Thank you again, your enthusiasm is catching!!
owlspook
wowie … haven’t used alpha masks yet .. time to learn up (grin) ...
syd baker replied
Mostly it’s finding the right box to check, and deleting the ground plane if it’s in the way. I’d have to experiment with Gimp and alpha planes before I swore it would accomodate you.
owlspook
all things can be learned given enough time (big smile) ... busy today with posting my work and keeping an eye on the storms flying through here … just one of those days (big smile)
syd baker
We have storms coming from Florida instead of the west, ‘sup with that? Supposed to be soggy tomorrow, but I’m prepared!
owlspook
ya I saw the doppler! .. weird weather pattern … so far no thunderstorms here but our percentage is quite high for tonite and tomorrow .. btw the grass in some areas of my yard is almost six inches tall from the last cut last week! (ugh)lol …
syd baker replied
So far no rain, they’re saying maybe lots less tornados this spring and longer summer pattern. Weather getting weirder, globe getting warmer?
owlspook
so far no rain here really either … perhaps … but it’s more global weather instability .. think climates changing …
syd baker replied
yup… and this is a new one for me, storms from the south east, Florida, all broken into pieces, finally rained this morning.
owlspook
Florida? what happened? broken into pieces? geez maybe I ought to at least watch the weather channel now/then!
syd baker replied
That’s what I’m saying! And looks like it fizzled here, probably soaked St Louis, sun’s out and the grass grew 2 inches!
owlspook
oh don’t remind me of the grass .. it grew almost a foot this last week .. just was telling the dog we ought to go out and cut it now before it grows anymore and the dandelions start scattering the seed again! lol … personally I’d rather just the dog did it LOL … oh well … guess I better get out of my jammies and take the time now before I get even lazier (big grin) ... catch ya later … after the ordeal (grin)
Dave Martsolf
Oh, man! I felt a fav comin’ on!
syd baker replied
Hi Dave, I acquired 3 different fractal programs so I could make mountains from them, haven’t even touched them, instead have collaborated with several artists here with likely looking works, what fun! Hope all is well with you!
nishagandhi
awesome!!
