    Jen Cannella

Mesmerizing image Syd, and perfect song to go with it!
I have no answers for you at this time…not even the easy one, won, 1.

  • syd baker replied

I guess it all depends on who your favorite Fab 4 was…

  • Druidstorm

    Druidstorm

Syd rocking in hope big style mate! This is cool, really excellent in all-aspects! BRAVO!!!...)o(

  • syd baker replied

Thank you DS, I made Blue Man that guitar before Christmas for something else, and this idea just grew inside and burst out at just the right time!!

  • Alice McMahon White

    Alice McMahon ...

Awesome Syd! And I’ve always loved that Moody Blues tune – great accompaniment to the piece.

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Alice, this one took a while because it’s lots of pieces made separate to be assembled, and long rendering times!

  • Heather Rivet IPA

    Heather Rivet...

    outstanding

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Heather, in the words of Rodney Copperbottom, quoting BigWeld, “See a need, Fill a Need!”

  • Solomon Walker

    Solomon Walker

    very brilliant artwork!

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Solomon, the original idea started out very different, but things change and so does art!

  • JenLand

    JenLand

Absolutely rockin’ cool awesome image Syd!!! Love your intent with this one too. :o)

Is the guitar Justin Haywards? Or perhaps yours?!! And are they standing on a silicon chip?

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Jen!! No, 2 good guesses, but nope! go back further with the guitar, what theyre standing on is sometin=mes on the ground, sometimes up in the air…

  • Romo

    Romo

Fantastic image, excellent message and love the song:)

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Romo, only problem I had with this was how long it took to do it just right after I got the idea!

  • Danilo Lejardi

    Danilo Lejardi

Great characters and a very special feeling you have here! Love this.

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Danilo, this one evolved suddenly into this from another idea, wanted to be born I think!

  • Scott Bricker

    Scott Bricker

    looks like Roger McGuinn’s Rickenbacker…
    something from Close Encounters? (naw…)
this is so damn cool, Syd! I agree with Jen, love the intent, dude! a great combo!
    blue man rocks!!! great image

  • syd baker replied

For you, I’ll spill the beans, it’s even now known as the John Lennen model Rickenbacker, I once had a sunburst one with 2 pickups, and they’re stage is really the top of the Millenium Falcon, scaled down a bit, ran across a free 3D model of it while looking for a decent image of an auditorium stage. Thanks my friend, and I think McGuinn’s was a 12 string with the slash sound holes (?) might have to look that up!

  • Scott Bricker

    Scott Bricker

yup, right on McGuinns…my bro had a sunburst 12 string like RM’s…yeah, I see the M Falcon now…not a big Star Wars guy…really like ‘The Babe in the Sky’ in the back…
hey man, your avatar is aging…heheh…hippie!

  • syd baker replied

It seemed so right, set up the band on top of a big round flat starship, then rise up just enough, you could play to all of Woodstock!
Yeah, these last 2 photos are the only ones from those days, the next one jumps to 1995, but we’ll save that for a bit!

  • ShadowDancer

    ShadowDancer

very wonderful job, my friend. hope is definitely something we could all take a piece of these days. loved the details on this one.

  • syd baker replied

Thank you lots, This one really popped in, it all started with creating that guitar, a replica of John Lennon’s, and I almost used his song “Imagine”, but needed something much more up-tempo and the Moody blues came through!

  • LindaMcCarthy

    LindaMcCarthy

A creative and beautiful composition, and I like the mood the image evokes. Refreshingly original and an interesting combo of media.

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Linda, I had been inspired by Willie Nelson’s 20 years of benefit concerts here for financially destitute farmers, and thought rather suddenly that Blue Man could, if only digitally, raise some spirits when so many of us need it, the Sky goddess group hug was added almost at the end, and she really flies.

  • retepk

    retepk

    Syd this is excellent.
    Great song.
I would have said Paul McCartney’s guitar. I like the keyboard being an old synthesist.
Can’t pick the floor pic. Instant fav. Another hit for the Blue Man.
    Cheers.

  • syd baker replied

Close, it’s currently sold as the John Lennon model Rickenbacker. Wish the angle had shown the top of the keyboard, I used 3 Nasa instrument panels instead of keys, lots of buttons and switches, knobs and dials from Here maybe use it again later. The stage is the Millenium Falcon starship from Star Wars, they’re standing on top of a free model I found while searching for a concert image to reference! Blue Man and Green Girl actually do ROCK!

  • Keith Reesor

    Keith Reesor

Excellent image Syd!! Love the background too!! :)

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Keith, I’m going to try a more detailed painted starfield next one, but good old Hubble came through here, and the Goddess is Poser, with this amazing control over the hair, she took longer to render than the band and stage!

  • linaji

    linaji

Gosh this is fantazical work.. I love the music and the elements you choose to bring us HOPE!!!! THANK YOU SYD!

  • syd baker replied

Hey Lina, would you believe that the original idea was to be a parody from that film Risky Business where Tom Cruise dances around in his undies to Old Time Rock ‘N Roll, but there wouldn’t have been any message there. Plus, there was a Super bowl commercial with a group of lame-o basketball players that did just that, and others as well before that, so it sounded pretty dumb… then it grew into something much more meaningful for me, it got Nonnie up there as a star, and the finishing touches came last.

Their stage is the Millenium Falcon starship from Star Wars so they’re hovering at an altitude good for volume, and the Sky Goddess, Earth Mother, whatever you want her to be is offering the biggest group hug there ever was!

I pondered the right music choice, and that song popped into my head all by itself, and I rushed to find the best link I could, and there it is! The only frustration was the long time it took to make all the elements and long rendering for the band and the goddess, and lots more post-work than usual, luckily the stage was a free download but still required considerable modifications, but I’m happy.

  • Terri Chandler

    Terri Chandler

    Awesome creation! Well done! xo

  • syd baker replied

Thanks DwC, another side of Blue Man and Green Girl (Nit and Nonnie)

  • Susan Kimball

    Susan Kimball

Great image…love Moody Blues but I flunked your quiz…I really enjoy your creativity!!

  • syd baker replied

Thanks Susan, in hindsight, I think it was a crappy quiz, the answers are above if you’re interested!

  • Earthmonster

    Earthmonster

Now thats cool, looks like the responses are tremendous.

  • syd baker replied

I’m particularly proud of Green Girl (Nonnie) in her first starring performance, a real natural pro! I am quite surprised no one has mentioned Blue Man’s jeans! Maybe he just looks so natural in them!

If you read my response to Linaji just above, you’ll see how this thing radically evolved from a comedy piece to a cosmic group hug from the sky goddess!

  • Earthmonster

    Earthmonster

Syd, the whole damn thing is spot on. Chops brother…chops.

  • syd baker replied

Thank you, my friend, this one grew all by itself and popped out of my head, music and all!

  • jewelskings

    jewelskings

Wow Syd this must have taken a lot of time ! Wow!

  • syd baker replied

Actually, yes, not just because of the separate elements to create, render, and then assemble, but because the original idea slowed and ground to a halt and stayed there, turned right angles, and started up again in a blast of excitement, had to be very patient with long rendering times, but amazingly, first render caught it!

The first idea was doing a parody of the scene in Risky Business where Tom Cruise jumps around and dances to Bob Seegar’s “Old Time Rrock and Roll”, but it’s been done and done before, and the whole idea just got stupid… then this just happened, and I’m so much happier, and the image grew a purpose too.

  • zooreka

    zooreka

Hehehe – what can I say…. The Implant’s live…. Love the organic piano stand…. and reuse of the fretboard…. worked out mighty fine…. Great Job my friend! Love how the figures are posed too

Funny I have been thinking of doing a piece based on the Moody Blues too – but what and when…..

  • syd baker replied

What’s interesting to me is that when the original project, described above here, dead-ended, it was that song that was the inspiration for the new interpretation, the sky, putting Green Girl up there with him, and the sky goddess, plus the meaning of the whole thing. It’s too bad you can’t see her synthesizer, I downloaded some images of space shuttle control panels from here and combined them instead of a keyboard, more like the old Moog sound effects machines, all dials buttons and switches… will have to use that later! What really amazes me? No one finds it strange Blue Man is wearing jeans!! I guess it just looks natural! When you’re shiny you just look good in a spotlight!!

  • Lucindawind

    Lucindawind

fantastic piece ! and I LOVE the Moody Blues .. saw them 3 years ago in Toronto and they blew me away ..Still !

  • syd baker replied

Thank you Lucinda, I have all their albums and listen to them still! Missed them last time they were here, they played with the Kansas City Philharmonic.

  • zooreka

    zooreka

Very cool idea…. I n=might be tempted to clone a few copies of the keyboard and rotate them so you have different pov’s and incorporate them into the image in a perspective – okay, the piece becomes a bit more abstract but still lend itself to the fantastical… and let’s us see some of theat hidden detail….. do you get what I mean????

  • syd baker replied

I have a plan, heh heh heh! You just gave me a splendid idea.

  • zooreka

    zooreka

Hey Syd – Just caught a great headline on the Beeb: SPACE ROCK MAKES CLOSE APPROACH

Naturally I thought Blue Man and Green Girl and this was the ticketmaster….. bummer!!!!

Blue Man is Making The Headlines before it hits the Newsstands…... Sound familiar???

  • syd baker replied

Wow! Space Rock is perfect for Nit and Nonnie! Of course I thought of Space Rock when I was recording my own instrumental music back in the late 80’s, I was determined to show what the crew of the starship Enterprise would rock out to in the 25th century, I called it Zero Gravity music, because it was spacey, and also not serious in any way!

Like the sound of that….. as long as it wasn’t stars on 45….. startrekkin across the Universe… on the Starship Enterprise under Captain Kirk…... I listened to a lot of New Age Music in the late 80’s Terry Oldfield, Andreas Vollenweider… some good stuff it was too….

  • syd baker replied

I still listen to vollenwieder, and here is something pertinent to this, some Eno!

  • zooreka

    zooreka

Eno -I am afraid I was not much of a fan of… Nor Robert Fripp for that matter… Loved Crimson though without them…. I drifted toward Vollenweider from Stuff Like Vangelis, Tomita, Tangerine Dream etc…. and though not strictly similar I loved Focus too…..Great Band!

  • syd baker replied

I still have an ancient mix tape including Tomita playing Claude Debussy’s Claire De Lune, I believe it’s the very one that plays for that big interactive fountain in Las Vegas. I’ll look for Focus, not familiar.

  • zooreka

    zooreka

Claire De Lune… one of my faves… and also Golliwogs Cakewalk (There was an entire album of Debussy covers)

  • syd baker replied

    also Snowflakes are Dancing!

  • Teresa P. Pelaez

    Teresa P. Pelaez

    wow! this is amazing syd!

  • syd baker replied

Many thanks Teresa, I was REALLY compelled to do this, in case it added a little hope to the distressed.

    Far Freakin out….........

  • syd baker replied

I have to admit a particular pride in this one, partly because it grew out of a particularly dumb idea, and because it came together very readily. Not all of these images come out without a struggle, but the emotion became very deep! thanks, kiddo!

  • DevineDayDreams

    DevineDayDreams

a STUNNER!!!! goes so well with the music!! IMPRESSIVE!

  • syd baker replied

Thanks DD,The original idea wasn’t happening very well, then this song popped into my head and the rest followed, like Destiny, I love when that happens!

  • DevineDayDreams

    DevineDayDreams

me too…...going with the flow can take you in amazing directions! :)

Blue Man and Green Girl must feel like absolute Gods of Rock, giving it all they got on the hull of the Millenium Falcon! (I’m not sure I would have guessed what ship it was on my own!). Looks like they are really summoning up some cosmic powers and archetypal energies. Thank you Syd… there is hope!

  • syd baker replied

I can see you really feel this as I do! I remodeled the Falcon so much it’s not a really fair quiz, but yes, I call that the biggest group hug there ever was! Many thanks!!

  • syd baker replied

Plus, that’s Green girl’s (Nonnie) first step up to the foreground, and she proves she has star quality just like blue Man (Nit)!

  • Keith Reesor

    Keith Reesor
