Heavy Mist in the Gorge by Randy Richards

I took this shot from a spot called Cape Horn on the Washington USA side of the Columbia River Gorge. Franz Lake Stae park is hiding under the fog in the background. This whole area is part of the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. It was a rainy, wet, foggy day and the light was terrible. After lightening the shadows a bit and messing slightly with the contrast and the saturation levels I ended up with the somewhat surrealistic shot. Taken with a Canon XT and a 28-135.

I have had a camera in my hand since the late sixties! Recently someone looked at a photo display I had in a coffee shop and got goose bumps. All I try to do is to capture various aspects of God’s amazing creation and let you also enjoy what I am seeing! If you get goose bumps, that’s great. But remember I only capture what he created. He creates, I capture, we enjoy.

This is outstanding… perhaps, one of your very best images. How exhilerating this must have been for you! It is magical.

  • Hi Clark, Somehow I was never too thrilled with this shot. I took it last November and finally did something with it last week. But I am glad you like it. I wish I could get it a bit lighter without making it look worse. Randy
