Artist's Description

This jar is one of my all-time favorite works I ever created in college. It’s from stoneware and was created by doing the ‘coil’ method.
Started off…..making a base by coiling a long rope of clay….so it shaped like a coaster….then rounding the coil around the outside edge upwards to form the main body…..as I went, I’d paddle with a smooth board to take out the grooves…..then closed it in till I finished with the top. I cut in the spout and added the over-all lip….then the cap and the handle with more coiled pieces…..after they were finished being attached and smoothed, I then used a fork and sharp-tipped tool to add the snail-shell textures.
Once fired, I then dipped into a blue mat glaze…which means it wasn’t a shiney one. I wiped upwards….maintaining SOME of the color but not all of it.
Completed while in college in Kansas….
With the opening of an art store here in my town this past last year, I’ve been able to get back into working with clay again. WOOOWHOOO! Thanx so much Ronda!
