The dainty Stalked Scarlet Cup is such a delight to find after such a dry warm winter. These tiny fungi grow on dead/dying wood close to the ground, preferring cooler temperatures and damp areas.
I find these usually in deeper darker wooded areas…and am often surprised when everything else is brown or green and then a bright red just pops out.
I picked up the stick to show the beauty of these…then set it right back in it’s designated home. Each are no taller then a pencil’s thickness….with the caps smaller around then an eraser.
Here in the US it’s more Eastern…Kansas being about as far West as it goes. Woohooo for Kansas!
Taken in Macro mode using my Olympus IR-500….NEVER knock a pocket camera!
