The snow fell, heavy, whispering silent memories around me…….I came back to this location found in NE Kansas up on the Missouri Bluffs….located outside a monestary.
This is only my 2nd trip. I was hoping to get more answers as to what the structures once were. I do not know anything about this place. No one I have asked can give me answers. I know others travel here like I do…there is a narrow trail that runs thru these ruins…not by deer…but by human footsteps.
This well remains……with a stuffed rabbit thrown or lost inside…by a long-ago hand. From the design, stuffing, fabric…….I’d almost date it from my father’s childhood.
These structures are old by Kansas time. Built with bricks then later, fortified with cement. An electric pole was added at some point…it now lies fallen and almost hidden with the snowfall.
One can not walk more then five feet away from this well…a fall from the bluff would be the result. I am safe where I stand for this photo.
I love this place….the silence…….the forgotten ambience that rests heavily over it.
Maybe someday I’ll get answers…or maybe I’ll just develop more.
