A favorite fall mushroom of mine, the Shaggy Mane. Hanging out here with purple Asters and some fallen oak leaves, these are in the ‘season’ here in NE Kansas once the leaves start turning and the air cools down.
They are from the fastest deteriorating mushroom family, the Coprinus, so you have to go and look as soon as you can as they may not be there an hour later.
Even though this one is not longer edible, I still find it just dramatically GORGEOUS!
It does help, though, that I love eating this species when it’s fresh!
