One thing I found so amazing…was that in one of the walk-in closests of this abandoned farm, were a group of dresses. Very little damage was visible and when I pulled them apart a bit to see details you could see the vibrant colors that they once were.
One was a brilliant blue…another a hot pink/red….one had lovely flowers embroidered on it and one was just a simple work dress.
I always wonder about the people who were once in these places when they were still alive with children’s voices…with the smells of the kitchen…with the feel of the clean air that we just hardly ever find anymore.

After talking with another older local who knew the family that once lived here………I found out the lady of the house loved music and dancing. She had a dance room in another building located off of the actual house that she’d dance with her children while someone played the piano.
Imagine what it must have been like……so much life!
This farm has been abandoned for over 35 years….one of the sons still owns the property and lets cows run free now but there is still ‘something’ when you walk thru the empty house…you just know someone is still there laughing and singing…or something…..

I love the feel of this. Something a little sad, as well as joyful.

  • i agree both ways.
i found the old washing machine one day…knowing that so few items of clothing could be washed each cycle……..the dresses hanging here would have filled the entire thing. imagine the days when she still had to wash these by hand………

I wonder about the domestic disasters that led to th house being abandoned like that. Not a great ending I suspect.

  • running water was one issue that i know of.
all the water they had came from a creek nearby or from what was delivered. they had electricity hooked up but without plumbing capabilities i’m sure it made a HUGE difference.
