The underside of a small Hexigonal Pored Polypore (Favolus alveolaris). These are supposed to grow up to 4 inches? I only find the ones about as big as my thumbnail. They’re listed as edible but I just can’t seem to get ENUF of them to EAT!
lol…there’s definately some ‘odd’ ones out there to eat. have u ever seen the Old Man of the Woods bolete mushroom? it looks like something kinda exploded on it then dried up but it’s edible too. :o)
Beautiful capture! It must be nice to have eyes that can still see this sorta stuff! LOL!
it was on the ground hiding i stinging nettles of course…ugh but at least i can see the orange against green…i don’t know how i’d be if i had any sort of color blindness :o(
beautiful Carla! How do you find the names of these mushrooms? Do you have a field guide to recommend or website? And what kind of camera do you use?
lol…thanx Dianne…i’ve got 3 shelves now covered in mushroom books…am a member of a couple web sites that help and just drag other people who are the experts out to see what i find. :o) My camera is an Olympus IR-500…the best digi cam I’ve ever used for macro images… and books? the one that has helped me THE most is the ‘Audubon Field Guide to Mushrooms’…others are ‘Mushrooms & Other Fungi of the Midcontinental United States’ by D.M.Huffman, an Eyewitness Handbook called ‘Mushrooms’, and the latest to my stash is ‘Macrofungi Associated With Oaks of Eastern North America’…I’m waiting to ‘win’ another but until I get it I’ll hold it’s name quiet. :o) Sites I go to are MushroomHunters.org and the UBCBotanicalGardens website… Also? If you are ever serious about hunting and ID’ing? try and google for local chapters of Mycological Societies?
I should have known this was you. 4 inches would be a big one!!!!
lol…i’m beginning to get a ‘crik’ in my back? all that crawling around and doing yoga over logs to get photos is starting to get to me. i’ve YET to see one of these much larger then a large coin! :o(
well…I’d have been ok if I hadn’t sprayed the oven cleaner in my right eye! freaken what the HECK! how smart do u have to be to do that??? (no inspectors yet)
