Both of these, Henbit (a mint member) and Nodding Stars of Bethleham (Ornithogalum nutans…of the lily family) are both invassive species here in Kansas, USA.
Both were introduced, one for it’s beauty and the other by accident.
Unfortunately…………I LOVE the Nodding star and just found them 3 years ago in my ‘secret garden’ that is on an abandoned farm. They haven’t taken over per-sey but they sure do flourish! They’re a gorgeous looking flower that gets set off with the purple and greens of the Henbit.
And although the Henbit is considered edible…it DOES cause cattle and sheep to stagger after a bit. I’m not sure about the Stars but as they’re a lily…I wouldn’t take chances as MANY cause liver failure.
Oh well….I’ll just go and admire them in my secret garden rather then introducing them to mine…………
