Artist's Description

These are larva to Fungi Beetles….unsure WHICH as they’re almost impossible to ID until in adult form and even THEN some are still very difficult.
However, I CAN tell you they are eating fungi called Split-gill, or Schizophylum commune. Each of the fungi fans are about the size of my pinky fingernail….so if you can imagine? Photographed using my Olympus IR-500 on the macro mode.
My son and I were out on a ‘Job Shadow’ where he has to learn the work of his chosen ‘employer’…..ME! So…we went nature photography hunting. Where…Nature then chose to snow, sleet and blow frigid wind the whole time we were out. However…we still had a great time and saw some beautiful and even 1st time things (a crow flying away with a robin???).
Taken 4/19/13 in NE Kansas
