The Netted Rhodotus, or Rhodotus palmatus, is the only member of it’s family. It is completely unique in so many ways…..and hard to find!
A rare beauty that is found in Kansas, USA more then any other location in the US….I always feel extremely blessed to find them.
This was found back in Sep. of 2012…..not sure why I never posted these.
They have a beautiful fruity smell to them…have a pale pink spore…pink gills…pink cap……….BUT..have a golden color ‘juice’ that comes out of the stem. The caps wrinkle when subjected to a wet/dry/wet/dry type of condition which gives it’s name Netted as it crinkles up into a net-like pattern.

    Outstanding capture.

  • thanx so much Julie…I remember it was almost dusk when I found them so was in a rush to get photos before it got too dark. The log they were on was gone the next day!

I guess this is the upside of the previous shot.
Most amazing pattern! I have never seen anything like it!

  • Exactly! When I first ‘discovered’ this species almost 8 years ago…I thought they were rotten and just wrinkled from age…then saw the undersides and realized they were SUPPOSED to look like that. When they aren’t wrinkled, they’re this incredible smooth pink that you can almost poke your finger into. they’re awesome
