Red-spotted Purple
Can anyone tell me…how did this butterfly get called that as the so-called red is actually orange…and there IS no purple?
This is a Red-spotted Purple…...a mimic of the grapevine swallowtail butterfly. Resting on one of my most unfavorite plants called ink-weed…or children’s death….or most commonly known as poke weed. Every part of this plant is poisonous but the leaves…harvested young….can be boiled at least twice to make them edible.
Red-spotted Purple belongs to the following groups:

hehe….noooo idea! when my son was about 2? i caught him with a handful of these ‘berries’ in his mouth….smiling awayyyyy! eeeeeeek!! at the er? he just sat and watched all of us run around like headless chickens still smiling. little turdlet.

although i hate the plants because of the hazard they cause and the life-threatening danger towards my son when he was younger? they’re still beautiful! luckily…my son won’t touch an unknown plant (if it even has green NEAR it…nope)
