Attack of the Shinglebacks
When approached, Shinglebacks open their mouths and act big and tough! Although dont be fooled, when do they bite, they latch on very hard! This pair was found wandering the bluebush near Lake Mungo in western NSW.

love this one. they’re very dark… over here (WA) they’re mostly greyish. one of my favorite animals, I have many happy memories of helping my grand mother remove ticks off bob-tails as a child. :)

Yes, shinglebacks vary a lot geographically! Check out my ‘Snow White’ image which you can find from the Reptiles hyperlink on my overview page, lots of white on this black shingleback, which is common in western Victoria. In NSW, we have caramel coloured ones, dark brown, black and yellow, brown and yellow, then jet black, then very dark brown like this one. All specific to particular areas of the state! Thanks for sharing your memories!
