    G’day Steven,

This is a wonderful shot of this very interesting and attractive skink.

Technically you have photographed it extremely well with very good exposure in that lovely soft light, a very good use of depth of field, super focus, a good angle of shot, lovely natural colours and very pleasing contrasts.

Aesthetically you would do well to crop this image to a square crop, which always works well with diagonals. This would give this colourful llizard much more prominence in the frame and eliminate a lot of unnecessary space. (Just a thought).

A great specimen, very well spotted and nicely photographed.

Hi GailD, they are great little skinks, live amongst leaf litter in woodlands. Only the males have the amazing blue.

I just realised from your profile that you were from Cootamundra. I have seen heaps of these guys out at Bethungra, at the reserve near the dam. You will have to go looking!

Thanks Sharon, You are probably a bit far west, although I did find these guys in Cocoparra NP a few years ago, but its an outlier population. More common east of Narranderra, and even more common around Wagga.

    Glad he caught your eye!

Ah cool….I do venture over Wagga wat sometimes. I have been to Cocoparra a few months ago but it was the middle of winter so no chance of seeing a lizard or skink. I don’t think they are into the 10 degree weather….neither am I

Thanks very much SharonD. This species is common on the western slopes of the great dividing range in box gum woodlands, especially where there are a few rock outcrops. They also dont really like heavily grazed areas, so steer clear of farms where heavy grazing occurs if you are interested in looking for this one.

the female will also show the orang flank striped, but much lighter, and only the male shows the blue, and only in breeding season. Thanks for your comment.
