Superb Blue Fairy Wren

I love these guys! They are one of the coolest birds that visit gardens in backyards (and frontyards) of south-eastern Australia.

This male was enjoying a front garden in the coastal town of Tathra, on the NSW Far South Coast.

Image taken with a Canon EOS1000D with a 150-500 @ 500 handheld. Steve is the Principal Ecologist at EnviroKey, a specialist ecological consultancy that undertakes surveys, research and education programs across Australia.

Yes Steve they are so cute and a wonderful capture. We don’t have these on the farm but they are around the Grenfell area but don’t seem to come this far and I don’t know why. Would just love to see them turn up.

  • Steve Sass replied 23 days ago

you should seen them your way :-). I remember checking some out at Barellan, thats on the other side of you isnt? Try looking along drainage lines, perhaps in some low shrubs if you have any.

We have them here. I haven’t been able to ‘shoot’ any as yet. They are so quick & I probably don’t have the right lense for ‘shooting’ them.
    Great shot Steve.

These little fellas are so flighty I’ve found it suprisingly hard to get a good shot of one, but this one is great. Love your bio ‘so many lizards so little time’ totally know where your coming from accept mines waterfalls. Cheers Trav
