Matera, olive baboon
Matera, is the mate and constant companion to Simeon, the pack leader, and mother to several children, including her baby, Keito, a 2 yr old male.
Though she appears silver in this shot, her true color is a dusty olive.
She resides at the Brooklyn Zoo.

Webbie, thanks for appreciating Matera;s portrait. She is indeed very pleasant in personality. I’ve never seen her ‘out of sorts’ or argumentative. Always serene and sweet looking.

Olive green may be her true colour but I think she looks great this colour it makes her look so serine. ( sorry about the spelling).
Sassafras replied
Thanks Sheila. I’m glad that I was able to capture the sense of serenity I feel she possesses. And that the light gave her the gift of that glorious color.

How do you know her name was Olive? exclellent shot!
Sassafras replied
:) No, Robin, her name is Matera and I’m told that her type of baboon is considered “olive” which I believe may refer to the color of fur…somewhat.
And thanks for the compliment.
