A Forest Fantasy

Oh tree, oh tree, oh tree
I stand here beneath thee
As you loom so high above me
If I fall down unto my knees
Will your branches come down?
And sweep me
Up into your canopy
Where I can hide and be still
Held in against your trunk at will
Warm and safe in Mother Nature’s womb
Your leaves brushing the hair from my face
And absorbing my tears
The pain which for years
Has worn my body thin
A death of soul from within

I will spend the night
And you will hold me tight
Let the only light
Be tiny stars so bright
Hold me here where none can see
For lest they dare look up at me
Let your smallest twigs pierce my veins
So that the sap of your pureness
Can return me once again to being sane
Let sadness and sickness run down your bark
Trickling amongst the forest floor
And away into the dark

When the sun comes up
Place me back again without a sound
To stand where your roots are firmly in the ground
The strength from which you display your glorious crown
But man would mow you down
To make things to sit and lie upon
And in doing so we hear you scream
The planet losing fast its dream

But I will run from here my tree, my tree
And I will talk to them to try and save thee
So that my children’s children can come and play and be
