this is an original oil painting on canvas, 30×40 cm. It is a symbolistic painting of a magpie flying away, inspired by the theme of departure and of leaving something behind.

Magpies are reckoned to be the smartest among birds: they seem to be able, for instance, to recognized themselves in a mirror. Just like any predator bird they’re attracted by shiny things and are thus thought to be thieves. In German mythology the magpie is the messenger of the gods and also the personification of Hel, the goddess of death. For this reason, this bird, that is somewhere thought to bring good luck, was thought to be fatal, so much to be called somewhere gallows bird.
