Some photo-shop layer. I just really like this image at the moment.
Unfinished work in process. Really just a layer from another image that i want to clean up and take further. Only just started playing with photo-shop so any comments, help and advice would be welcome.

This image is to accompany My short story,
Love & the darkness.

LoVe & The DarKneSS

Maybe it was always dark ? She wasn’t sure? It had been so long ago.

The silver light had died so low that she could barley remember what it even looked like? Couldn’t remember it even ever being warm!? There where glimmers as it faded. Sometimes even bright bursts!
And so she had hope. She had faith that she would feel something again. She had so much faith!
She tended to the flame, but she was growing weaker. She was always trying to keep the flame burning but the cold darkness was never going to let it burn as bright as it could. She always knew she was going to be drained and did not have enough energy to keep the flame burning in such a world.

Did he think her flame was big enough to burn up his darkness? That her hart was strong enough to bare his coldness? Her skin thick enough!?
Yes, the darkness chose LoVe because she shone pure & true in his dark lonely world. But he kept her in the end because he came to know she was soft, delicate & fragile so he didn’t have to be afraid of her outshining his power. He would always have the power. She could never hurt him as much as he could hurt her …............... Never! Because she was LoVe and he was the cold darkness, brittle and callous, with a greedy pornographic appetite that slowly ate away at LoVe. He would feast on whores every morning while LoVe lay wasted and dying.

She remembered how he had seemed to really care about the flame on occasion, like he may really have been trying to help her shine and not just concerned with helping himself to her radiant body so that he could feel more powerful in his pornographic world?

She just hadn’t realized this at the time because he was so powerful and she had already been drained by another darkness. He so sure of himself in his punk world that she could not possibly believe that he had had to use and abuse others to gain satisfaction, to gain anything that made him feel good about himself. To gain what he thought was a good life? She really thought he might love her? That he liked her for more than what her body could offer.

He started to make beautiful things when he was with her, rather than the dark things he had spent so much time making when he was alone and it seemed he wanted to grow in a positive way, rather than recycle the past, recycle the hate, recycle the resentment and ignorance of the father who held women in contempt.

Maybe the memories she thought had been so precious and real were not real at all?
But she must have seen something? Something more than lust? Something more than his punk power? She must have? Because otherwise she would have never have gone with him across the desert to live with his family. To meet the farther. To give him her everything. To shine for him, trusting that he would shine for her when she was drained & down. He did not. She had no strength left, because she had given it all to him and she couldn’t shine any more ….............................................

The Pornographic darkness prevailed for many years.
Dragging LoVe down into the cold DiRt, he sucked her dry, stole her energy and had eaten up all of her beauty for himself ! He spat hate into her face day after day, night after night.
Her hart on her sleeve, she had foolishly trusted would be safe. It wasn’t.
The object lay quivering like the dying, tortured, wrecked body of a little mouse that a cat had left to die, finished entertaining itself with the small object. Like the cat, the pornographic darkness had not really ever wanted to kill love, he had just wanted to play and entertain himself. To feel satisfied and powerful.
If LoVe had understood, that to the darkness her hart was nothing more than a shinny, sexy new toy to use and abuse, then when he had had his fun discard like a cheap, useless, dirty worn out piece of sex stained plastic, she would have never have given him her full, true hart ….................
Now she was left behind in his cold nothingness, she was broken, confused and alone. She thought she was dead !?
LoVe & Beauty had disappeared into the cold darkness, where nothing could be seen, felt or heard.
The pornographic nightmare was all consuming ….................
Bleeding his black, lost, hurt and humiliated, she could hardly breathe, she felt sick, like her body had been poisoned. It seemed hopeless to try and stand up, let alone take any steps. Where would she go? She was so weak and tired, the thought of having to get up and move forward with out being slammed right back down again by the over bearing, seemingly all powerful darkness exhausted her. The realization of how thin and delicate her only skin was frightened her. How could she protect herself ? How could she stand up and walk when she was so damaged, so very fragile? She had not had enough time to recover her precious hart. The darkness was still there. He had returned and was as vicious and nasty as ever …..................... It seemed now, that he really was hell bent on destroying her completely !!!! This time he wanted to really kill her !!!! He wanted to kill LoVe !!!!

she pulled herself up out of the thick black heavy tar that was his hart. Thick sticky black substance rolled off her damaged translucent porcelain skin.
LoVe stood up and started to shine …........

Nice to meet you, and Thank-you very much.
Ummm … everyone seems to be liking this one !? Thats good cause i really like it too ( theres something new! ) I think it is a finished piece with-in it’s self, how ever i am using it as a layer because i like it so much and it makes sense with other images i am using with it.
So it can stand on it’s own and live with-in another image at the same time ! I LoVe my repeated themes and layered messages !? ArT reflects LivE, Live reflects ArT. Cheers ! Sass.

  • Lenka

    Lenka

Very intense! I like the composition and contrast of the red heart against dark blueish background; plastic wrap gives it interesting look, the heart looks a bit like jelly, with a lot of impact for more senses :)
BTW thanks for your comments on my photographs and yes, I still do photograph on film for many reasons, for example the grain I like to use in some B&W landscapes, or the possibility to get A3 prints without having to enlarge the photographs, or quite a big dynamic range with good negatives :) Thanks again and have a good light :)

  • SaRaHKnOwDoG replied

    A good Light ! I like that ! ; )
I am glad you mentioned the intense FACTOR. Yes it is intense ! Another cathartic piece. : / I am very emotional and if i don’t get it out through ArT, i loose iT !!!!
I know ! ....... about the film thAng ! getting on here has actually made me want to start up my DarK Room again !? Just LoVe the hands on processing, printing ( painting with light ), experimental, sensitivity, chemical reaction that goes on in there ! Ummmmm and the grain ! Yesss …... Yes ! And also it’s nice and quiet and there are no exceptions to people wanting to come in when yr working ! : ) ; )
    PS : You RocK !

I like this very much Sarah, the colour contrasts are awesome and for once the plastic wrap effect doesn’t look out of place (rarely ever been able to use that filter constructively enough). i do have a little suggestion if you want it though.

    xxx

  • SaRaHKnOwDoG replied

Yeah ! Give it to me. feedback is great ! We all need it. Constructive criticism is half the reason i am here.
Cheerz on the plastic wrap comment : ]

  • Gal Lo Leggio

    Gal Lo Leggio

Ok here we go: every corner is fluid, organic. However the top right hand corner is very geometric like a cut out. It bothers me a little cause it detracts from the work itself because it stands out.

    xx

  • SaRaHKnOwDoG replied

There you go see ! I never saw it that way ?? Strange how we get so Wrapped up in our own work, maybe so caught up in certain areas and details that we fail to see obvious mistakes or irritating lil things that everyone sees clear as day !? CheerZ ! Now it’s annoying me and you are soooo RighT. This needs fixing, thanx for that : ]
I did a Macro of some pencils and someone pointed out a lil black spot ( the tip of a pencil i think ) in the bottom of the frame, i missed it ? So concerned with DOF and center and top of frame that i missed the spot at the bottom. So glad he pointed it out to me.
    Thanx Gal. This is helpful.

Everyone tells me I look like either Juliette Lewis or Winona Ryder or the chic from Labrynth. Depends on the angle and the hairstyle, they tell me. I rarely look into a mirror for longer than it takes to comb a rat’s nest from my hair. I take it as a compliment, though! :)

  • SaRaHKnOwDoG replied

    Thanx again Chris.
There is always someone better and someone worse than ourselves. I wish my photoshops came out as good as Navy Brat’s or EbonyKate’s for example.
This was an experiment that worked out. The original photo is of a stone hart that i painted black and glued on to a black bored along with an array of other items i could not stand to look at anymore, unless they were painted black and all glued into a mass of gooey black stuff. So i did put a bit of effort into this ; )
