HI Sandy – Its interesting the number of times I am hearing rivers and locations in the United States being named after the French – it seems they had quite an influence historically.
Yes they did, the French trappers and traders were in this area and on down the Ohio & Mississippi Rivers to New Orleans, Louisiana in the early 1700s. Then the British took the area and In later years the German immigrants settled here so a lot of locations seem to have French and German names and of course English. Were just a mixture of everything here Brendan:)
As all great nations are – the sign of greatness of a nation is the successful integration of all persons into one community. Look at some of the countries, even in Europe, who struggle with this concept. This is why so many people in the world want to live in the USA (and other modest places :o)…..)Cheers!!
